Today was just not your day. First, you couldn't find your favourite jacket to wear to school as your sibling had borrowed it and lent it to their friend. To say you were annoyed was an understatement, but they promised they'd return it good as new tomorrow.
Then, when you went to have lunch at the creepateria, Toralie and her little minions ruined your shirt by 'accidentally' dumping their food onto you. Luckily, you had a spare shirt in your locker to change into. But now you were running late for class.
"Mr Hack is so going to kill me," you murmur, rushing through your locker to find your Mad Science textbook.
Once the textbook is in your hand, you close your locker shut and hurry to your class. However, it looks like you're not the only one running late. In the opposite direction of the hallway, Deuce Gorgon is running towards you.
There's no denying how attractive he is. He's tall, muscular, and his punk rock aesthetic matches his confidence. Despite the shades covering his eyes, you found him handsome, and so did every other creature at Monster High. The fact that he's still single surprises you.
Lost in your thoughts of Deuce, you knock him down. You're not big like Manny Taurus, but because of your Gargoyle nature, you're as sturdy as a rock. You drop your book while Deuce's glasses fly off. He's so surprised that he forgot he's a Gorgon and looks right at you.
"I'm so sorry," you apologise, reaching down to pick up your book and his shades. "I should've been paying more attention."
You give Deuce his glasses, but he doesn't put them on. For a moment, you see a hint of sadness behind his emerald green eyes, but then surprise crosses his face.
"You didn't turn to stone?" Deuce says in confusion.
You smile to suppress the laugh bubbling inside you. "Uh, yeah, perk of already being stone. Gorgons and Basilisk don't affect Gargoyles, it kinda defeats the point of what we are."
"Really?" He grins, his green eyes mesmerising you. You're almost caught in a trance until his shades cover his eyes. "Wow— That's cool."
You pull your textbook close to your chest. Your heart hammers against your rib cage, threatening to stop at what you're about to say.
"Your eyes are beautiful, by the way. It's a shame you have to hide them."
"Maybe you and I can hang out sometime? Like a date, if you want, that is."
"I'd like that," you say.
The school bell rings, and both you and Deuce tense up. You're officially late to Mad Science, and Mr Hack is going to cut you open like one of his taxidermy animals.
"Well, I'm officially done for. Mr Hack is going to give me detention this Saturday. But we can hang out on Sunday at my place. Say about 12?"
"Great, I'll send you my address."
You start running to make your way back to class. But before you turn the corner, you look over your shoulder. You see Deuce staring back at you. You grin and try to suppress the anticipation building within you for Sunday. Maybe today wasn't such a bad day, but you still have to survive Mr Hack first.
