Hey y'all! Public Abalone here, I've come to make an announcement:
Last year, I was writing a historical Sonic the Hedgehog AU fic. I was having a really hard time writing. Then I dislocated my shoulder at work: this did not help matters in the slightest.
But while I was recovering, listening to Andy Serkis's readings of "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings", I got an idea, and couldn't shake it out of my head. This idea flowered when I got to "The Silmarillion", and is now the fanfic which I shall now link:
This isn't a crackfic. What began as a writing exercise turned into a full-blown integration of the parts of Archie and SatAM Sonic I most liked, with Tolkien's world. I'm currently putting out a chapter a month, but the rate has been pretty steady, and unlike my history story I have the whole thing planned out.
If you end up clicking either link, please leave a comment, even if it's just an "It's okay". All feedback is deeply appreciated!
Prionosuchus is an extinct genus of large temnospondyl. A single species P. plummeri, is recognized from the Early Permian (some time between 299 and 272 million years ago). Its fossils have been found in what is now northeastern Brazil.
Sonictober 2025 Day 27! Theme: Sweet. The best part of baking a cake is getting to lick the bowl afterwards, especially when Amy Rose is in charge of the sugar dosage. Think that there’s a whisk somewhere inside Bunnie’s robot hand?
From the Diary of Miles Prower. The entry is still in the process of being decoded:
*Log 1138*
*I don't know how Eggman did it, whether it was some novel injection, shenanigans with a particle accelerator, or some kind of device he'd stolen from GUN. All I know is that he's the one behind it. Amy, Sonic, Sal, Rouge, Shadow, Rotor, and dozens of others have been turned into dinosaurs. Not replaced: turned.*
There is an artisanal coffee parlour around that caters to regulars and gourmets.
At some point in this parlour, Shadow can be seen carefully appraising specially hand-picked roasted coffee beans while in absolute bliss.
One can only hear the minutest of noise in this uniquely still space, where a bitter, yet faintly sweet aroma permeates the air of a counter seat at the heart of the establishment.

A man with discerning taste!? Shadow inspecting coffee beans in this latest SONIC PICT!?
Shadow the black hedgehog enjoys black coffee. A perfectionist like him remains exacting even over the beans in a coffee lounge…
One couldn't possibly put the look on Shadow's face into words as he selects his coffee beans after taste-testing them through every means available, here in this sanctum of a specialty shop where connoisseurs of screen-sized coffee gather.
(It seems that the lounge's attendant goes by the title 'Master')
The store's splendid atmosphere is chic and luxurious as well. I'd also like to frequent a store like this and suavely buy coffee beans there.
“BOUND FOR FREEDOM, YEAR SEVEN, DAY Two: “Fantasy”
“Aníron”
It had been many years since Sally had last walked through these woods. Yet her feet carried her through it as easily as if it had been only yesterday. She barely even gave thought about where she was going until she came upon the stone bridge, perfectly captured in the light of the stars. A sight...a place...that held many memories. Of she and....
"I thought I might find you here."
The ranger turned to the source of the voice without surprise; she had sensed his approach several steps back. It was Sonic, approaching her with a calmness she had only ever seen within him when they had been in this very spot together so long ago. "I thought you might come find me," Sally answered as he walked up alongside her. "How is Miles?"
"He's resting, thankfully," Sonic answered. "First good sleep he's had since he 'n' I left the village."
"It's the first one he's had since then that he did not need fear he would be taken from his bed by the monsters now hunting him," Sally said bitterly, her hand instinctively gripping the hilt of the sword she kept close to her waist.
Sonic reached out for a moment as if to put a hand to her shoulder, but ultimately kept it at his side. "Seeing you helped a lot too, y'know," he said. "He's missed you a lot."
"And I him," Sally sighed. "Truthfully, I wondered if I would ever see him again...and if he would forgive me when I did."
"There was never anything to forgive," Sonic answered easily. "He always understood why you had to leave." And this time, his hand did find its way to her shoulder. "We both did."
For a moment, Sally remained still, simply looking out across the bridge, into the dark depths of the forest ahead. But eventually she allowed her hand to find his. "I wish I were as understanding," she said.
"You were only ever trying to protect us," Sonic said, gently turning her towards him. "You knew what your father would have done if you'd stayed."
"Then I should have had the courage to face him," Sally answered, eyes downturned. "Instead, I chose the coward's path."
Sonic shook his head, moving his hand to Sally's face. "You kept us safe the best way you knew how," he said. "Same as you always did."
Finally, she let her eyes meet his. "...I've missed you too," she whispered.
He leaned in close, letting their heads touch just a little. "I am pretty hard to forget," he said, soft yet teasing.
And in spite of it all, it made Sally smile. It allowed her to wrap an arm around his waist and pull him just a little closer. "It's been good t'see you again, Sal," Sonic said. "Even if I wish it were under better circumstances."
"As do I," Sally replied, "but that is not for us to decide."
They stayed together, close, and allowed the starlight to embrace them. "I'm glad you'll be with us when we depart on our quest," Sonic eventually said. "There's few swords in all the realm I'd trust more than yours."
"For Miles' sake, I will fight," Sally replied, eyes drifting away from him again, "but I wonder if your faith in me is misplaced...to destroy the Ring will be a tremendous undertaking, and I fear I am not-"
He cut her off with a gentle touch to the cheek, encouraging her to look him in the eye again. "Yes you are," Sonic said. "There's...a lot...about what's happened with Miles and the Ring that fills me with doubt, but of this much I'm certain." He held her close. She let him. "You will face this Evil...and you will defeat it."
((I've had a larger "Lord of the Rings"/"Sonic" AU bubbling around in my brain for quite some time now, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to actually put some of it down, though I admit the story segment ran away with me a bit as there was just SO much I wanted to include; I genuinely had to cut out a LOT just to get it down to this size. XD Who knows if I'll ever actually get the whole thing out there, but suffice it to say I definitely have ideas about what characters play which roles and how to fit the story to "Sonic" specifically too, and unsurprisingly for me Sally As Aragorn was a load-bearing one.))
