Throughout the history of Thedas, there had been multiple attempts to set the Litany of Adralla to music, both to serve as a memory aid and to have the melody provide a sense of comfort to the petitioner, in addition to the protection from demonic forces the litany itself provides.
None of these compositions have quite managed to rival the popularity of the rather controversial Mother Nicana version, which will be presented to you shortly.
Born in Jader in 7:56 Storm, Revered Mother Nicana was a figure as beloved by her faithful as she was inconvenient to her superiors.
Ever practical, as well as a fierce advocate for following the spirit of the Chant, regardless of the politics of the time, she faced criticism from peers in the Chantry for choosing the original Tevene text as the basis for her composition. When pressed, she simply answered that if she could find a single translation that fit the original's metre, she would consider it.
In spite of this short-lived controversy (or perhaps because of it), this version became popular especially among those who had need of the litany for practical uses, such as the Mourn Watchers of Nevarra.
The following are two performances of Mother Nicana's Litany of Adralla. One was performed by the lay sisters of the Tantervale Chantry. The other was heard sung in Kirkwall's Lowtown by an initial survivor (presumed to have been a minstrel employed in the Hanged Man tavern) of the catastrophic fallout of Anders' destruction of the Kirkwall Chantry in an attempt to protect himself and several others from the demons that surrounded them.

That one currently-out-of-print middle grade mystery/adventure novel you found at the public library after school sometime in the early 2000s, that for some reason hit all the right Tropes and lives rent free in your head 20-ish years later. Truly a formative reading experience.

some fern embroidery for spring <3
iโm going to an ostara celebration today! this is the second time that iโve embroidered ferns, and iโm happy with how it turned out. i started with a darker green and integrated a lighter color as i got closer to the ends of the fronds to create a gradient :)

Hearing other people praised made me despair jealously of myself, for I took it at face value; whereas, had they spoken ten times as well of me, I would have discounted it to nothing.
T.E. Lawrence - Seven Pillars of Wisdom
Dumbass tabletop rpg character concept:
A character whose weapon is a gun with red dot sight laser, except the gun is just a dummy that's been carved out of wood and sprayed black, with a laser pointer pen taped onto it. It's obviously fake to any character who knows anything about firearms, and it's always a gamble whether anyone who doesn't know anything about guns is going to be fooled by it. But that's the neat part: The gun isn't the weapon.
This character has a familiar, a big cat beast that's been trained to attack on command, attacking whatever the laser is pointed at.
No wait it gets better: Instead of a vocal command or some sort of a gesture, the dummy gun's otherwise useless trigger makes a very distinct clicking sound, which is the cat's cue to attack.

I am so damn pleased with the Sedgwick County Zoo media team, yโall. They just dropped a stellar blog piece on why GenAI slop videos of animals are such a problem - and how to identify them!
If you spend any time on social media, youโve probably seen them โ bears bouncing on trampolines, apes caught on doorbell cameras, or โrescu
This is the first time Iโve ever seen a zoo or aquarium in the United States speak up broadly about AI. (The only times I can think of any comment at all has maybe individual instances when a deepfake of โtheirโ animal escaping is circulating.) And they did a great job with this piece! Itโs succinct, easy to read, and written in a way that doesnโt shame people for engaging with AI content before they knew better.
I think this is exactly the type of resource needed for sending to that family member or friend we all have - the one who isnโt aware of the slop issue and constantly sends you clearly fake videos because theyโre โso cute.โ
Iโd love to have Sedgwick get some public positive reinforcement for taking this stance. If youโre so inclined, a comment on their FB post would be great as itโs likely theyโre going to get shit for this from sloppers & co. We really do need animal organizations to stand up for accurate, real animal content and this is a great first step in that direction.
