Very biased take here, but its weird from an in world perspective in Well of Ascension that the main crew never mention Marsh.

I mean ??? Sazed comments Marsh really helped Elend's government by handling the Steel Ministry in the early days. He definitely worked with Elend. Presumably he told them he was leaving Luthadel, but there's a whole ass army out there now and no one thinks 'wow, I wish Marsh hadn't left we could really use the show of strength by having an Inquisitor chilling over here' or 'is Marsh getting back soon this would be much easier with a 2nd Mistborn'.

Instead... nothing.

There's a lot going on in WoA but given the power of a Steel Inquisitor and half of their problems being the defenders are the weaker party... its strange. Particularly when someone spots an Inquisitor around Kredik Shaw and Elend doesn't even go 'hm, I wonder if Marsh is back?'

From a meta perspective, I think Branderson wanted the audience to forget about Marsh and how odd he was acting, but unfortunately that just doesn't fly from a in world perspective.

And Sazed! What's his excuse? Marsh vanishes on the way to Luthadel and never arrives and Sazed just... doesn't think about it. That's not normal! Didn't he claim he'd tried to befriend Marsh? But Marsh vanishing is fine?

Rereading Mistborn (accidentally for the 20th anniversary) and I just finished WoA. Its so much better than I remembered. I haven't read it for a few years and I remember being a little bored through it but not this time. And, of course, it really sticks the landing. Really paying attention to the little pre-script headers before each chapter knowing about Ruin and seeing the differences between what Sazed is reading... Great experience.

i think theres this idea in the general public that the "best" fanfic gets turned into real books like 50 shades of grey. but the truth is that the best fanfic can never be published as an actual book because its intricately woven into the canon material so its inseparable even if you change the names
