The statue of Our Lady of Desolation, that is carried around the Puglian town of Canosa on Holy Saturday.

During her procession the desolate Madonna is joined by hundreds of the town’s women, who cover themselves with black veils and walk the streets barefoot, singing mourning songs. In doing so, they join in Mary’s maternal grief and sorrow over her Son, who has been laid to rest in His grave.
