"Why didn't Glinda get on the broom?" discourse makes me think of Hadestown. You KNOW she doesn't get on the broom, because in the story as written, that's who she is. Not because she has any more to lose than Elphaba, but because she isn't willing to lose it. Just like you KNOW Orpheus is going to look back at Eurydice, because that's who he is. As the end of Hadestown tells us, we keep listening to the story over and over again because a part of us hopes this time he won't look back. We know he will. We play Defying Gravity on a loop hoping maybe this time Glinda will get on the broom. We know she won't. That's what compels us to play it one more time.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone would notice if I just stopped being involved in anything. Like. I just want to lay in the dark and pretend I’m not here half the time but I think the thought of doing that, and realizing that my parents aren’t calling me and no one is texting me is the saddest thing I’ve ever fucking heard. Being an adult, moving out, and realizing my family does not actually care enough to check in has been so hard to come to terms with.

tbh I can't stop thinking about how i went into Hadestown being like "this is a tragic love story based on a greek myth I enjoy :)" and I came out the other side covered in blood being like "this is a thesis about how capitalism inevitably leads to both personal and global ruin, and so we are duty bound to resist it even as we lose, again and again and again. no matter how impossible it feels or how many times we fail and hit a wall and fall, we try again"

I need a new job so bad I’m so serious. I can’t keep living like this. I’m on call every night, I basically work double the hours of first shift, and I dread the phone calls every night. I feel like I’m gonna puke constantly from the stress of it. I really thought it would get better but I’m still absolutely terrified everytime I hear the phone ring. I never wanted to be in charge of handling other people’s problems, but I thought I would adapt to this job eventually. It’s been a year and I’m still terrified.

The fact that I have a bachelors degree and I’m still told I won’t get a job without a masters is infuriating. I worked so hard for that degree. I was so mentally unwell it’s a miracle I made it through, and yet I’m not good enough for a job that isn’t minimum wage? I got lucky to find this job 6 months out from graduating, but I don’t know if I’ll ever find another job that pays the same (it’s not minimum wage so it’s better than where I was). I’m so tired. I never sleep anymore. I feel like I’m ill equipped for this job. I feel sick. I feel very alone. And it’s been a year, so I’m expected to know what I’m doing but I don’t feel like I know anything. All I feel is constant panic and dread. When I get calls I spend the next few minutes shaking every single time from fear. My anxiety and blood pressure have been off the charts since I started this job and I feel like I’m going to have a full blown mental breakdown if I don’t leave but WHERE THE FUCK CAN I GO?! I feel stuck.

I’ve tried therapy too, but the one I had was terrible and every other office in town is completely booked. I feel like I’m going crazy. People keep telling me I’m so lucky to have found this job but god, I feel like it’s a damn curse. “We don’t require anything but a bachelors degree” and yet this job requires so much knowledge of the law, of medicine, of law enforcement, of mental illness, that you should ABSOLUTELY have a degree specific to this to be hired. And I didn’t go to school for this. I feel like I’m gonna be sick.

I make enough that I can support myself, and I’ll be moving out of my parents house soon. The thought of switching jobs and risking not having one while trying to live on my own is sending me spiraling too. But I wasn’t built for this job, and I don’t feel that I’m good at it. So I just fear being fired every day as well.

I am so scared and tired. I really can’t keep living like this.
