I genuinely think Ragatha is a good person. While she has flaws, she doesn't mean to be rude. I don't see her as the manipulative woman, just a people's pleaser. In her perspective, all she sees is Jax being a perk, that's it. That's why she's worried for Pomni when she interacts with him more. As a genuine friend, she doesn't want Pomni to have a bad influence, even though they're all adults.

But the thing is, Ragatha, while being nice, doesn't understand that there's more to a person. She doesn't understand why Pomni would stay with Jax. Gosh, I love flawed characters, especially when they're relatable.

You don’t realize how many artists have same face syndrome until you try to find an artist who can portray ethnic features. Many of them either lack the skill or the motivation, or maybe the motivation to develop the skill. But sorry I don’t want you giving my Black OC a pointy little nose and that same mouth you drew on that white girl over there.

Next time you find an artist you want to commission, look and see if they have any Black or brown people in their portfolio, and as you search, maybe fruitlessly, all the faces begin to look exactly alike and it starts to feel like you’re looking at someone’s incredibly well executed dollmaker.

People who can draw a wider range of features than just “generic white fantasy girl #9” are stronger artists and more worthy of your cash. (Unless the same face Pixar thing is what you’re going for, then by all means, proceed with mediocrity.) And I don’t mean “draws the same face and gives it dark skin and curly hair” I’m talking big noses, wide noses, flat noses. Monolids and thick lips and textured hair and PEOPLE WHO’S UNDERTONE IS NOT PINK FOR GOD’S SAKE WOULD YOU STOP MAKING PEOPLE PINK?

Anyway, find quality artists by looking for faces of color.

Sure, Unsplash is limited by what users submit, but at least by that virtue, there’s so much more there on Unsplash to practice with as an artist for diversifying your face shapes and body styles. And, again, all of these are free to use, so they’re willing models.

I appreciate this addition because you did the work to find a quality source of pictures from models of color who are every day people. They also VOLUNTEERED to have their pictures used for free by artists as reference. That gives them agency, it makes it a oit communication and not colonization.

I don’t want people to never make an addition to my posts, it’s just way too often people blunder along without any care for the core subject - which is racism, not a simple criticism of technique. This shows an understanding of the underlying issue and then says to other white people “hey look you can stop being racist AND not be racist at the same time!”

2010. I’d been feeling a bit ill. Work was going nuts, so I figured it was stress.  Pretty good call considering a week later work fired their entire IT department (of which I was part).    

But then I got sicker.  And it turned out I had cancer.

Burkitt’s lymphoma, stage 4a. It had spread into my brain and spinal column. 90% cure rate, but I needed nine months of chemo - and not the outpatient chemo, nope, talking multiple week stays per round of the magrath protocol.  Drugs were about 10k an IV bag.  I was unemployed.  And there were complications.

Thankfully I live in a country with universal healthcare.   And it didn’t cost me a goddamn cent to save my life.  I’m now officially past the five year mark to move me from “remission” to “Cured”.

I’ve lived in a universal healthcare country my entire life. And I’ve seen the US system in action.  Your system is fucked. Straight up fucked. You’ve got fucking Dickensian shit going on there, people dying on streets from preventable causes or ending up broke for breaking a hip.   Your health insurance companies have you by the balls and people like you are begging them to squeeze harder.  What the actual fuck is wrong with you?

Happened when I was 32.  I’d spent 14 years of my life paying those fucking taxes that funded the system that saved my life.    And guess what?   Now I’m cured, I’m…Back..at work..And have been for several years…earning waaaay more money and paying back into the system. This shit doesn’t exist in a vacuum, dickhead.  You’re not feeding some imaginary pack of leeches, you’re paying forward on your own damned healthcare so you don’t have to argue with an insurance company while trying to heal.

the only people I have ever known who voluntarily went to an American hospital instead of a Scandinavian one (Scandinavian hospitals being all universal healthcare), was my big brother’s family who have a son with a heart condition. They’re Icelandic. Iceland, with a population of about 300.000 people, does not have a specialised children’s hospital so the surgery they needed for their child just wasn’t available in the country - not uncommon, so what the Icelandic health care system does in those cases is pay for the surgery to take place abroad in a hospital with doctors who can perform the surgery. So they decided to go to America (Iceland paid) to some hotshot children’s hospital to get surgery for their baby, and they had to wait 4 months for this vital and urgent surgery even though it was paid for up front. In your so-called amazing American hospital. For comparison, the same kind of surgery here in Denmark is actually urgent, so the child has to wait 2 days tops to get the damn surgery.

So miss me with that “waiting time of a couple of years” bullshit. That’s not a thing.

I was actually about to renew my twitch sub to him that day. Safe to say I didn’t lol. Idk man.
