It’s true we want to tear down everything you’ve created and replace it. But it’s not because we’re monsters. It’s because we’re young and it’s our right.

My father recently lost his job, we lost our house and now on top of this he has been diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes.
He is a professional machinist and has been working as one for over 30 years, only to then have his work stolen from him by his own mother and sister. We’ve been scraping by since then and now that he lost his job we have absolutely nothing to live off of.
He is such a strong person and until yesterday I have never once seen him cry. We’re absolutely devastated - he has cancer and we have no way to help him.
He has always refused to take money from other people and he has spent his life helping people in need, and now we are the ones who need help.
My mother’s best friend has made a gofundme to try and help us pay our bills (we currently have no income whatsoever) and get him the treatment he so desperately needs.
If you can’t donate then (please, please, please) signal boost this. I’ll also share with him any supportive asks I receive regarding this..
I love my father so much and I am so afraid to lose him right now.
GOFUNDME
Update: Apparently some people are having issues with gofundme so I’ve added a donate button to my sidebar!! Thank you guys so much!
Update #2: The doctor alerted us that they’ve likely found cancer in his sinuses as well. Please please please signal boost this I’m really scared right now.
Update #3: He has cancer in his lymph nodes and we just found out he has it in his bone marrow as well… Please please please signal boost this, the notes have slowed down to a near standstill and It’s really worrying me.. Even if you can’t donate, please reblog. We need help.
You hear all these “you’re not a real fan unless” and it lists a hundred things, but I met a dude today who saw my Deadpool pin and asked what my favorite story arc was, and I explained that while I loved Deadpool, I was new to Marvel (I only really got into it a year and a half ago) and hadn’t been able to find a lot of the comics. Instead of making a face or a derogatory comment, he just offered to send me all the stuff he had. That is a true fan.

the joker. j/k, try gamora or maybe…I dunno, deadpool?
//I was thinking of doing like a 70's punk Harley actually (she's cuter than the Joker he is a nerd) I was also considering Gamora, but I admittedly don't know a ton about her so I dunno
Deadpool would be cool. I'd just have to figure out a way to make a makeup that doesn't look exactly how he does in comics.
//ANOTHER OOC POST
but nobody is responding to my personal blog so
can you guys give me suggestions for fictionala character to make an original makeup for?

O Sorry it seemed kind of, irrelevant on my post since I wasn't referring to roleplaying
Personally, I'm a person who has to read everything a character has been in in order to rp someone (which is why I went from rping Kurt Wagner to Kurt Darkholme--much easier to do. Especially since I loved AoA and I was reading X-Force at the time. Aaand then he died.)
But for, say, a character like Azazel, I would recommend playing the movie canon as opposed to the comic canon, because up until the recent pirate thing, Azazel was an absolutely shit character.

oh no don’t get me wrong I spoil shit for myself a lot of the time lmao I still haven’t read Secret Avengers and I know exactly what happens in that
It's kind of hard not doing that as a Marvel rp blog lol
That's why I kind of rely on tags these days to keep me up with what's happening in like, WatXM and stuff (which is partially because i dont like the writing and also because I can't read them on this shitty computer...)

Well, my rant was about being a fan and had absolutely nothing to do with roleplaying, so uh...
I said people are elitists for thinking they're more of a fan for reading every comic as opposed to people who cannot.
So like, dunno why you're trying to argue with me about stuff I wasn't even talking about.

You don’t need to /buy/ comics, you can, y’know, download them for free. They’re about 17 pages, you can read every issue in like two minutes. Movies aren’t a reliable or accurate source to portray a character that has DECADES of history :/
Some people have issues with reading things on the computer (it really fucks up my eyes after a while) and a lot of people would rather support the title by buying it.
Movieverse and comicverse are different, anyway. I've never seen a movieverse rper try to pass off as a comicverse rper, but regardless, there's nothing wrong with just watching the movies and stuff, either.
Yes, it's more fulfilling to read the comics too, imo, but sometimes the characters just aren't the same (like Yondu or Azazel.)
But that's why, if nothing else, there are wikis. Which, if you get the gist of the character, is not a bad way to begin. I roleplayed Nightcrawler largely with just info from wikis and from watching X-Men Evolution.
AUs are okay, be it movieverse vs comicverse or a rp blog patched together from things you've learned from Wikis. Read comics if you can, but not being able to doesn't make someone less of a fan.

Word. I haven’t read all of Knights of Pendragon, even though I’m almost embarrassed to admit it, and since I live in the UK comics come out super late here. I only recently got my hands on Fear Itself.
spoilers must be obnoxious as heck for you But yeah that's another problem.

not 2 mention comics are more expensive in canada. i have to spend five bucks to get a single 11-paged issue of ghost rider where 4 of those pages are ads
HHHOLY CRAP how much are TRADES
You Don't Need to READ or OWN Every Single Comic to be a TRUE FAN
I know I'm on hiatus (mostly I just lurk because I'm on a laggy shit computer on an uncomfortable stool and have no reaction images so I couldn't rp even if I wanted to), but I just, really, really gotta get this out.
It is elitist as fuck to think that somebody isn't a "true" fan of something unless they've read everything.
Not only that, but it is classist; comics are $2-3 for a single issue. When there are bullshit crossovers and various things happening to a certain set of characters every week, the amount you have to pay to keep up is ridiculous.
Not everyone can afford it.
"You can pirate it!" True. I pirate comics when I can or have to, but when you do that, you have to realize the impact that will have on local businesses and the comic itself. If they don't get enough shelf sales, the comic may get cancelled.
But, also, if you don't have the money, worry not. You don't need to read every issue to be a fan. Or even most of them.
Especially with Marvel and DC, it can be very hard to get into, with so many titles and so much backstory.
Utilize wikis. Comicvine is my favorite, but the official websites or DC/Marvel wikis can also help. Not all wikis have the same information.
There, you can get vital information on your favorite character and story arcs. You can be a fan of something by just reading the wikis. You aren't fake if you don't buy any comics. I recommend you do, because it's fun, but if you can't, no penalties to ya. It's okay.
But put effort into learning, if you want to get into comics. It does require reading, and there will be big gaps that you will have for a while because you didn't read a certain wiki or whatever. There are a lot of wikis. That's okay. You don't need to read every single X-Men comic to be a fan of X-Men.
I am a huge X-Men fan and could tell you a lot about mutant history and various X-Men, and I still haven't read the entirety of M-Day, Messiah Complex, or the recent Death of Wolverine arc. I'm not less of a fan for that.
I used to be a Batman fan, and most of what I knew was through movies, the cartoons, and wiki pages (this was back before I knew how to pirate.) I'm not so much anymore, but I'll still fucking wear my Batman shirts and the like.
You can call me "fake" and try to quiz me on it, literally would not give a shit. And anyone who does that is a pretentious douchebag. You do not have to be a walking trivia book to be a fan of something.

Author John Scalzi was on a roll this morning (currently 7:14 AM, 26 Sept. 2014) with a tweet he found from some guy sending out an “ultimatum” to women to “make a choice” between feminism and, well, men like him. So Scalzi launched into a truly magnificent set of scorchers, which I’m posting here for the delectation of people everywhere.
Also: I would like to thank that guy for setting the ultimatum. It makes finding a boyfriend so much easier when the undesirable ones wear a placard identifying themselves.
"The tragedy of that poor boy’s life is not the realization that he’s not the grand prize he’s assumed, but that he’s not even second place."
