I am the most in love person in the whole world.
Only a couple hours now until I leave once again on another long term one way adventure with no real plan or agenda other than to see the world!!! This time with my lover by my side, to the wondrous lands of South America... First stop Cartagena, Colombia. Excitement level = real.
I'm so in love it's almost ridiculous.
2 weeks now until I say goodbye to my beautiful home and all the beautiful people in it here once again. Another one way ticket trip is about to begin and the excitement nerves as the countdown ticks over is kicking into overdrive. South America, I'm coming for you.
Travel excitement kicking in HARD.
My favourite kind of nap. In the van with my boy watching the waves roll in and the sun set behind the clouds.
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.. Flicking through last years travel photos is getting me seriously eager for this years!!! 4 weeks today until I'm on a plane with another one way ticket and not a clue where in the world I'll end up, just the way I like it :)
would you recommend learning spanish before going to central america? also did you feel safe most of the time? sorry for all the questions people keep trying to talk me out of it!
Please please do not let yourself get talked out of it! I know many many people who have travelled to Mexico and Central America and they are the ones who's opinion and advice you should listen to! Outsiders are so misguided in the sense that they only know what they choose to believe/have learnt from the media, which is NEVER the be all and end all to a places reputation. These countries are very safe most of the time, rarely did I feel uncomfortable or question my surroundings.. Only ever due to a poor sense of judgement on my own human error behalf making a silly decision for example ie walking around alone late at night. Lke I did, you would be travelling along and around a super popular tourist path where I promise you will be pleasantly surprised by how many other travellers you will come across! There are bulk western hostels ALL over Mexico and Central American countries owned and run by Australians, Canadians, Americas etc who have come over to start a business. You will meet SO many people. And you will not be going to any of the dangerous locations or doing anything ridiculously stupid which have tainted there's beautiful countries image. These places are only unsafe if you are... Travelling absolutely anywhere always comes with a danger, anywhere and anything does.. You could get abducted in the eye of London if you weren't careful, the same goes with these places too. Just be sensible and you will be fine. I thoroughly implore you to consider travelling to the countries, you won't regret it and you will be so pleasantly surprised at how at home you feel. Take the plunge!!! Also, yes I would recommend at least learning some basic Spanish before you go, you do pick a lot up a long the way, especially if you are alone. But the locals really appreciate you're efforts if you do make them!
When you went to Mexico, did you spend the whole time purely in Mexico or did you visit other countries? I'm thinking about going over and a list of places to consider visiting while I'm there that would be awesome! Xx
I spent 2 and half months traveling around all the amazing places in Mexico! Then I spent another 2 months travelling further south into Central America! Visited countries like Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica. I highly highly recommend Mexico, and the same goes for Central America. If you're going there you should really considering making the effort to visit as many countries as possible whilst you're there! They're all truly spectacular and they all individually have so much to offer.
1 x happy little jelly bean. Life is pretty sweet.
All the brands you named are technically vegan, but they're not ethical when it comes to the environment. Cotton on and dotti import their shoes +clothes from Bangladesh where the working conditions are Inhumane and ship every item in separate plastic bags. I know that it's impossible to be 100% ethical as a consumer. But I can't agree that buying from cotton on etc is an ethical option. I'm only mentioning this because I'm curious to know your opinion, I'm really torn about the whole subject.
Obviously I am aware it’s impossible to be 100% ethical 100% of the time, but in my particular consumerist society I genuinely try and do the best I can with what I can and what is around me. I'm aware that these large corporate mass producing companies aren't the best for the environment, but in a small step for what I believe I’d still choose the mentioned companies and products over leather ones any day, for wearing the flesh of an animal on my body is far worse then a crime of many I can think of.
Same converting vegan here! Ah thanks so much! Just another question on zoos! Do you think its right to visit zoos focused on conservation and that have like open plain enclosures or is it best just to not go to any?
I would choose to go to neither! You can never fully trust any organisations motives or intentions despite what they may claim their focus is about, I’ve learnt this first hand. What goes on behind closed doors you will never fully know. (Which is generally a lot more money focused than anything, unfortunately). I’m for solely observing wildlife in their natural habitats and environments. And if you can’t/it’s not possible, then so be it :)
Hey lovely! I'm a converting vegan and was wondering if you had any brand suggestions for shoes/bags/backpacks that are vegan friendly?
Hey!! I don't shop a lot or own many fancy things but off the top of my head most brands I go to for shoes and bags etc that I need are lipstik, therapy, dotti, (sometimes) Sportsgirl, cotton on/rubi shoes, or the occasion individual brand... Always check the labels they should always say leather or non leather, and the price tag is always a good indicator also. So happy for you and your conversion! It feels so good to be not only eating but also wearing and promoting items that are cruelty free! Be the change! Let me know if you would like to know anything else :)
Lover.
Hell yeah to the van life and freedom!! Ain't nothing as sweet as the open road.
