I don't see what's so wrong with comparing characters... I personally don't see it but if they think it looks like samurai jack then that's okay. It's not an accusation against your character designing skills, or accusing you of copying a design. It's just a speculation.

Peepos react differently but most artists don’t like being compared when it comes to design for a lot of reasons. It was something we put effort in doing and hearing someone say “hey, it looks like X character” makes it seem like we didn’t put effort in making those designs at all, it’s like that person is basically accusing us of copying the other design.

and if there’s already something similar……what’s the point in making it? what’s the point of continuing the thing? if we’re gonna get nothing but “it looks like X”

I have to disagree with this. In this day and age it's almost impossible to create something truely original. But just the way they look isn't the full picture of a character. I can think of two examples of different degrees: Depending on the origin you can look at two characters as fraternal twins. The original ideas are similar, but were created by two different minds. People will say they look alike, but you can see that they are their own characters from the start. Other characters take inspiration from previously existing ones, so you can look at them as clones. The two might look exactly alike, so there's no helping it when people compare them. But the longer you get to know them, the more you'll see how each of them matures and becomes one of a kind. Regardless of how your character came to be, they are your own character. They are one of a kind.
