Izzy Hands (ofmd) reminds me a lot of Javert (les mis)
@pilferingapples I was honestly very tired when I made this post and I think a lot of it is just vibes but I’ll try and explain anyway. I feel like both Javert and Izzy are overtly masculine characters who are very set in their ways and resistant to anything that challenges them. Javert is dedicated to upholding the Law. Izzy is dedicated to being a ruthless pirate. And they extend that viewpoint to other characters. Javert doesn’t believe that Valjean can ever change and that once a criminal always a criminal. Izzy resists Ed trying to become a better man and not just the Dread Pirate Blackbeard. Both of them believe that their mental version of Ed/Valjean is the only correct version.
In my opinion, they’re also both very unhinged, intense characters. Like neither one has any chill, and at times they seem to act almost feral. It’s absolutely great to watch but also they could probably benefit from therapy.
Additionally, they both have a fixation on a specific man that seems almost homoerotic. This is especially obvious with Izzy. There’s no denying that this guy has a crush on Ed, and like the way, he decided to mock Lucius and Pete by moaning Daddy? That is not straight man behavior. Javert too. Like you can argue that he was just doing his job or whatever, but there is a reason Valvert is a fairly popular ship in the fandom. Also, this one isn’t super relevant, but they’re both called dogs at some point.
Don’t get me wrong. If the two were to ever meet, I’m pretty sure they’d loathe each other. And there are a lot of differences between them too. But in my mind, they do have somewhat similar vibes.
