Jaurice my beloved!!!

They are so adorable in AHKJ I adore them so much. I was listening to this song and as soon as I connected it to Julien and Maurice I was so excited to make an AMV. I am really happy with how this turned out.

A big thing to me about Maurice is that he has always been there for Julien. Julien even phrased it that way in Dance Dance Resolution he said "I realized you've always been there for me, even when my parents weren't."

What's really sad about what we know about Julien's childhood is how most of the people who were important to him when he was young have betrayed him or hurt him in some way.

So as a kid he presumably had his parents for some amount of time since he remembers them leaving but they didn't even seem to say goodbye and them missing the recital and just disappearing was traumatic for him. His uncle raised him but later on tries to kill him multiple times. He was friends with Rob McTodd who also turned on him to get revenge when Julien didn't leave with him after Rob was banished. He dated Karen and accidently stood her up (I don't think he did that on purpose based on how it was portrayed) and she also tried to kill him, publicly humiliated him and told him she only liked him because she wanted to be queen.

So, it's just Maurice who was an important part of his childhood and actually stayed as a person to count on. Maurice was always there for him and was the person who has always cared about him throughout all the hard times. It's such a good relationship. I adore them.

I have a lot of feelings about Kowalski and Skipper's dynamic. The penguin team feels like a found family dynamic to me (in the show they are implied to have different backstories than in the 2014 movie and that's another topic I have a lot of opinions on, but regardless I still see the team as a family) and of course they all love each other, but Kowalski definitely has some resentment towards Skipper in certain episodes, and I find it super interesting. I love both characters SO SO SO much and the way they have very sibling-like bickering sometimes is super hilarious. But also, I do think Kowalski is resentful of Skipper sometimes and of all the penguins I think Kowalski would be the most likely to go villain based on episodes like Jiggles and the time with the hard drive being blown up in Good Night and Good Chuck. I do think it would take a lot to get him there for real since he really cares about the other penguins and does want to be a good person and do the right thing (usually lol) but its really compelling to think about.

Anyway this amv is about Kowalski being resentful and jealous of Skipper lol

Ok this one kinda comes with a whole rant lol. I have so many thoughts on the dynamic between Julien and his uncle. I think it's really cool to see how the way Julien interacts with his uncle changes over time and Man in the Iron Booty is the turning point there in my eyes.

In season 1 Julien was still so innocent and forgiving of his uncle and I feel like in Man in the Iron Booty that was when he finally saw his uncle's cruelty directly. The other two schemes were more passive. He seemed to easily forgive his uncle for abdicating expecting Julien to be eaten in his place likely because he saw it as his uncle saving himself but didn't think he was specifically wishing harm on Julien.

Then in Return of the Uncle King, he was tricked by his uncle to go into fossa territory (since he still trusted him then) and it was a surprise to him when he found out it was a trick but he still wanted to give his uncle "a chance at a new life". It probably helped that in this case his uncle did nothing sinister seeming directly in front of him. But Man in the Iron Booty had his uncle fully trying to torture and break him and after that point whenever he sees his uncle he is much angrier like in Jungle Games for example when he calls his uncle "the worst person in the world". So that was the vibe I was going for with this video. But also, I have a lot of thoughts on Uncle King Julien's perception of Julien and what his mindset raising him might have been that factored into why I made this AMV.

I have so much speculation on Julien's childhood and how his uncle raised him. So, we don't know much about how UKJ became king but since I tend to think he immediately followed King Julien the Terrible that gives us an interesting possibility for why he's paranoid about being overthrown. Because we know that King Julien the Terrible was overthrown and it's interesting to think that at that point UKJ might have been the heir and was then got the throne but possibly in a very unstable state where another revolution could take that from him and lock him away too. So maybe that's why he's so sneaky about the ways he rules with fear before the events of the show. He uses the fear of fossa to control the people and covers up the worst of his own actions (sacrificing lemurs to try to appease the prophecy for example!) So that's my interpretation of how UKJ got like that. He saw King Julien the Terrible's leadership style through fear as an example so that's what he thinks is how leadership works but since King Julien the Terrible got overthrown, he tries to do it in a way that makes himself not seen as clearly as evil as King Julien the Terrible was viewed. So instead, he says the fossa are the threat he is protecting them from with his strict rules and behind the scenes he's doing messed up stuff like the Footstool Program with the assassins that he ended up killing most of and the sacrifices mentioned in the first episode. And of course, the people are scared of him directly as well that's still part of how he controls them but he blames the worst of his actions on the fossa (who are a real threat too of course) and that helps prevent them from revolting since they still see him as in some way looking out for their best interests and protecting them from the fossa.

So, if the kingdom overthrowing him is a possibility, Julien's reputation and popularity is directly correlated to how likely that is. So, I think UKJ would not want Julien getting along with the ordinary lemurs. Julien is necessary because the kingdom needs an heir to have a future, but his existence could lead to what happened to King Julien the Terrible happening to UKJ. So, I think he would have raised Julien very intentionally to try to prevent that. We know that he had the Footstool Program with Pancho trained to potentially assassinate Julien if needed but that seems like a backup plan if everything else goes wrong. In my head I like to call his plan raising Julien as "Headrest Program" because it matches Footstool and it has to do with messing with Julien's head, so I think it fits really well lol

So, I think that plan would have to have something to do with managing both Julien's behavior and Julien's reputation among the kingdom and keeping him separate from them for the most part and interfering by trying to control who he interacts with and how they interact with him would be a huge part of that. So that's why all the stuff in Revenge of the Prom would have happened. UKJ manipulating things to make the other lemurs in school resentful of Julien for being spoiled and getting everything he didn't earn like prom king and "winning debate" and all that other stuff. So, Julien never has to work hard and learn how to persevere through challenges. And that makes Julien planning an uprising very unlikely since that would be hard and it's easier to just enjoy being a prince for now and wait to inherit eventually. Plus, Julien thinks the people love him and his ego gets crazy big while they are secretly annoyed about it and less likely to support him over UKJ. We also know from Viva Mort that Uncle King Julien taught Julien to never apologize and that he was still trying to follow his uncle's example in that episode since it's still season 1 and it's before Man in the Iron Booty. That episode is such a good example of Uncle King Julien's influence and the process of Julien moving away from it over time.

And what I find really compelling is that Julien when away from the influence of his uncle grows so much! He is so much more capable as a leader by the end of the show (Exiled shows his growth the best I think) And I really love the ending of Man in the Iron Booty because I feel like his uncle was really shocked by him standing up to him and it's really satisfying.

And that feeling is what this AMV is meant to be about thank you for coming to my TED talk lol

In case you ask me why they look so different, here the zoosters are younger, they are between 11 and 13 years old, a long time ago I had made these designs of them a little older but I had not done any serious drawing of them

Madaparty theme 7 - Family

I think that Julien always had his little place in the jungle where he ran to while feeling upset or sad (because of his uncle or parents) - and little Momo would often join him here :)) Even though they are different species, they compliment each other and are each others' little found family - like chess pieces, seemingly different, but the same at heart

and YES i wanted to include Clover to have the full royal trio but also wanted to focus on Julien's childhood, cuz i think he was "pampered" but in the neglectful way, the "my parents allow me to do whatever I want always" (because they don't care, but the child thinks the parents are super cool not strict etc) And Maurice was "the outcast" so he was probably often scolded, stricly raised and treated with disdain (((because I have a little headcanon that he was raised with julien by his parents when they were really small because Julien WOULDN'T LET GO and would keep crying when his Momo was away so they just gave up for peace, and when they left Uncle Julien separated them and hired Maurice as Julien's caretaker when they were older)))))

I wrote about the piece of jungle that Julien likes to escape to - that's because the song I chose is about a special place you can run away to that brings you comfort, and you can always meet your family and closest people there :)) It's like a Sacred place, hence the title - Sacrum

Thinking of uncle's childhood makes me crazy too bc there isn't any backstory but we probly know everything we need to know. people usually just act out to their children the things that were done to them as a child. going with the theme of family inheritance passed down to Julien, Uncle likely had his own "uncle" growing up

also crazy to think Uncle was alive maybe when Doc was overthrown and 'killed', which then could easily have shaped Uncle into becoming the scared ruthless murder king he ended up being.

(I have to rewatch the doc sugarfoot ep to remember the timeline but I think Hector knows and remembers when doc was overthrown. Assuming he and Uncle are near the same age that means Uncle could have been a kid when the royal family was attacked. A formative life event Perhaps)

Oh i love this analysis! I wonder about this a lot too because no one is born evil and Doc Sugarfoot/King Julien the Terrible was likely UKJ's father or uncle and probably some form of guardian/influence. And I agree that him being overthrown happened while UKJ was alive. It feels to me like it must have.

I also wonder why the uprising and overthrow of King Julien the terrible didn't overthrow the whole royal family. Was there someone in the family that they thought would be a better leader? Was it UKJ and they ended up proven wrong or he changed from paranoia of being overthrown himself? And maybe he did want to be better early on but paranoia about being overthrown turned him bitter and led him to keep the lemurs in line through fear. Especially since that would be the only thing he had ever seen that worked and there would probably be plenty of people against the monarchy entirely no matter who was in charge right after a big revolution like that. Maybe those are all the people he sent to die in the jungle. (Julien did say in Viva Mort that UKJ's "catchphrase" was "Go die alone in the jungle.")

Oh and UKJ did say in the first episode (not meaning it but still) that “ruling a kingdom is a young lemurs game”. It makes me wonder if he became king very young possibly right after King Julien the Terrible was overthrown. Or maybe there was a different government in charge for a bit in between and UKJ took control back from them? There's so many possibilities for how it could have gone and it's all so interesting!
