Politics of Installation | e-flux reading.
I feel as if art should just be itās own thing. Most people create art because they want it be seen or they want it for their eyes only. Only artists can decide if they want to sell the art they make or only have it displayed and/or looked upon.
Hmm...
Katrina Palmer Reading
So..I didnāt really understand what was going on when I read some sections of the reading. At first, I felt really uncomfortable with all the gory sounding things in the beginning, and then, I did not understand what was going on after that.Ā
Gramschi Monument
I feel like I can connect with this video a little more, in comparison to theĀ āWhen Faith Moves Mountainsā one. I can see the dedication that the people helped build to make it a fun community for anyone and everyone to enjoy. It made me happy to see many people come together to make others happy.Ā
When Faith Moves Mountains
I didnāt really understand this video. I mean, I understand that a group of people got together to do something to try and help their community, but..moving an inch of sand (mountain), is just the beginning for these people. I feel like they could have done something better. I was not as drawn to this video as others may have been while watching them work under the heat.
Final Project Abstract
2. For our installation piece, we decided to use the back area where a tree is between the Fine Arts and King Hall buildings. With that tree, from its branches, we will be hanging various pieces of wood and a picture frame. The pieces of wood will look as if they are floating while being connected by wires. This will give off the illusion of the wood floating in space. Our objective is to capture a moment in time. While capturing this moment in time, the picture frame will be hollow, however there will be two figurines within the frame box. Each one will be a contrasting color and they will be made out of wire and yarn. We will manipulate these figurines in various intimate poses. However, these poses in relationship to the figurines, will stay neutral. For example, the two figurines can be holding hands, something you can see a boyfriend and girlfriend doing, or a parent holding a childās hand, or two best friends holdings hands. We want to create an environment that a passerby can easily relate to with just a glance, so that when they view the figurines holding hands, they will not necessarily have to think it is a couple, or holding hands, it can also be seen as two people shaking hands or a secret handshake of some sort, or a low high-five. The picture frame being broken up can be viewed in multiple ways. One way we would like the viewer to see the piece is by creating the feeling of revisiting an old memory. For some others, they may see it as a dream-like scenario, because the picture frame is broken up, it is not solid, making the scene inside the frame become surreal. It can portrays peopleās dreams, passions, wishes and desires of relationships. We will have stairs underneath the frame leading up to the frame itself connected by wire. From the floor, the stairs will start off in broken pieces, which will end up as solid planks the closer it gets to the frame. The planks will represent growth from instability within relationships, that will then lead into forming these memories that you will see within the frame. Within the background of the frame, there will be a tree. The area where this tree is at, is a nice relaxation spot for people who just want to take a break or relax or admire itās lustrous colors. The tree is not too big or too small, it just has the right height for people who want to go view it. Because it is hidden, it is only exposed to a small population who walk by, rather than those who walk through the main walkway on campus. In most cases that we have experienced, this area has been used as a scenic area for drawing classes and a lounging area. This environment gives off a serene and calming feeling, Which matches our whole installation piece of trying to a capture a precious moment. Picture frames are used to capture moments in which they are displayed to the public but in a more open environment. Since the environment is open, we do not want to have a closed off structure so, with the frame and the steps being broken apart or floating, this will help blend into the area but not to an abrasive degree.

"Like Man, Iām Tired (Of Waiting)ā By Sam Durant, an electric sign posted on the wall of LACMA.
Sight Specific Art
1. When I first saw this, I was coming out of the elevator from the parking lot of LACMA. It was during the day, so I figure I should get a better look at it during the night, since it was an electric sign and it looked much better lit up at night. I feel that maybe this sign has some relation towards people nowadays. When we have a daily routine, and know what to expect from it, we are just waiting and waiting for it to be over. It can also relate to people who take the train/subway/bus, where they have to catch a certain time, and the wait may or may not take a while. Everyday we are all waiting for something or someone. There can even be an instance where a person may be bored of something, and they are just waiting for some excitement in there lives.
Some progress on the final project with @judithart and @candicoy
An acrylic painting I did in class. It's really hard to paint flowers since this was my first time.
I tried to draw a tree in class today.

Added wires to it to create a spring-like effect.
This was supposed to have a drippy effect but the paint kind of dried out.
Foreshortening. Had to draw a persons hand today. I gotta say this was a little hard. But fun at the same time.
A little stage set up for the group project with @judithart and @candicoy.
