How to Score Well in Medical Colleges’ Entrance Exams
It’s difficult to get a seat in medical colleges, as compared to engineering ones because the number of seats is much less. Non-medical students are assured that they’ll get admission in an engineering college easily, with above 60% marks. Medical ones have a tough time that way procuring a seat, they study a lot and yet everyone doesn’t do that well. Now a few things are easier for them from the previous decade, they don’t have to give 15-20 exams to get one seat, as today the number of entrance tests are far less. Before buying any medical books online, take the below expert tips into consideration, that will help you with clearing the exams.
1 Read as many books as you can
Earlier, the case was that you just had to read prescribed books in detail and that would be enough to clear the exams. There have been students who until not very long ago, would even get into AIIMS New Delhi by self-studying CBSE books. Now, the scenario has changed. You should try to read as many books as you can. Try not to leave anything, you never know where a question will come from. Along with subject material, also purchase entrance exam books online, which come with MCQs from last year's question papers of various exams.
2 Practice, practice, practice
When it comes to scoring well then 10% is luck and 90% is hard work. So, read as much as you can, and finish the syllabus much before the end of session. Practice solving the last few year's papers by hand, which will give you much-needed confidence later. The hard work of these 2 years will pay you later for the rest of your life when you secure a seat in a good college.
3 Do the maths
Some medical students avoid solving numerical, thinking they’re Bio students so why bother with Maths, which won’t be of use to them later? That’s where they usually go wrong, as the Physics section of entrance exams is often filled with numerical questions. In recent years, even Chemistry papers have been asking the significant number of such MCQs. So, do not take Maths lightly.
4 Take MCQ’s seriously
There are many students who do well in board exams but lag behind in multiple-choice questions. Ideally, your +2 syllabus should be over by July-August time, that way you can start devoting remaining time for competitive exams. If possible, start solving MCQs in +1 itself, so that you’ll get used to them later. When doing medical entrance exam books online shopping, keep an eye out for new releases with the latest solved question papers in them. In your spare time, solve full question papers from start till end, which will help you with time planning in the main exam, as you’ll be knowing how much time you take for what section and which ones you can do with ease.
5 Plan the exams you take
Getting admission in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is now relatively easier than before because more colleges have opened up. Yet, it happens via their standalone test. Don’t fall into the trap of spending most of your time solving questions for AIIMS, when your basics itself are not clear. The exam involves traveling as well, as the centers are few.
Compared to that, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) happens everywhere in India, which covers almost every college for MBBS and BDS. Chances of clearing it are higher than AIIMS, since the number of seats is more, therefore this should be your main focus. Then there’s Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) if you plan to serve the army / short service commission.
In case you feel pressurized due to competition, you can go for the various veterinary exams that are held as per state, whose scope is growing in recent years. With the Indian government promoting AYUSH and opening of herbal stores across the nation, you can try for BAMS ones as well, for which your +2 grades will matter.
