For clarification's sake, is this true everywhere? I ask because I know that different countries have different quality home electricity provision; American home electricity Ain't Great compared with most of Europe, for example. In Wales I have never heard of this being a Thing, but our electricity comes in 240V flavour, so possibly the higher current naturally avoids this issue?

My British husband (not an electrician but electrician-adjacent) says yes this is true in the UK as well - anything that uses a lot of power should be plugged directly into the wall rather than an extension lead

The reason for this issue is that not all power strips are actually rated for the amount of current a space heater can pull. There exist more expensive extension cords that can handle that amount of current. But the ones you have are unlikely to be those cords.

Here's a video from my favorite channel on how the cords are bad, it's focused on the US system but it applies other places too!

I used to compare this to how black and white photography has its own beauty you can appreciate on its own terms, but I’m feeling that less these days. It’s more like being able to see the stars without light pollution.

The stars are still there, but if you’re caught up in society’s amatonormativity and suffocating relationship structures you may never experience their full beauty. City lights have their own beauty, but they can choke out things you’re starved for beyond them.
