Independent & semi-selective for a Goetia OC; Persephone.
Loved by Kairi. Sideblog to @starsaught.
See, Persephone would play into the game of which of her children was the favourite. But then she remembered something important.
They're both incredibly stupid.
A heavy sigh is his only response at first, letting himself relax and not taking her words as a personal attack against him. This was their typical banter, and he really needed to learn that she had a point and that he should be listening.
"That is assuming her grandfather doesn't get involved, in which case he can kill all of his best laid plans goodbye." Andras knew Paimon would only tolerate so much before acting, hence why the former marquis went along with the engagement plans between their children and toed the line while keeping any ulterior motives hidden. Paimon was not an enemy you wanted, nor a fool or anyone to be taken lightly.
Always ready for the defense ; Persephone knew him too well. By now he should be well acquainted with the way she freely spoke & edged him on. Given how many times she had to pull him back from the depths of his own mind, he should know better by now.
❝ Undoubtably, given the girl's rather impressive display, it'd be impossible for Paimon to ignore. ❞ The temptation of power, she'd never understand ; merely being happy with where one sat on the heirarchy never seemed good enough. She would have preferred her daughter to remain outside of that family ; but never could they ignore the King's request. ❝ He most likely has a plan set into motion for her. ❞
"Or perhaps the blame should rest on the fact that our 'son' is a poor learner." Oh he was scowling now, not too thrilled on his wife calling him out in such a manner. Then again, it was such sass that drew him to her.
"Hardly; the boy wishes he was as good as his father."
A slight flick of her wrist, moving to stand & swiftly move behind where he sat, blackened talons resting carefully upon his shoulders. A way to appease ; none of what she truly said held any merit of ill will. ❝ Come now, you must give the boy some credit. ❞
❝ If he plays his cards right, ❞ Major emphasis on if, ❝ He'll still maintain control. Knowing him, he'll think of something to keep the heir in line. ❞
"To be fair, my dear, this was to be expected." Completely ignoring the fact that he would do much the same, albeit with a bit more tact.
"The boy never truly learned, so it is pointless to expect much from him at this point."
❝ If we must point blame for our son's lack of learning, then perhaps it should come from the stance that you've failed as a teacher, my darling. ❞ Pouring salt into wounds of personal failures? Oh, quite the case.
❝ Cut from the same cloth, you both could pass for twins by this rate. ❞
❝ To mock a father who lost more than merely titles is a blow beneath him. I expected something better than this. ❞
Time for some LORE DROP
x. Eldest of seven siblings. Always tasked to help raise the younger ones as a way to ""teach"" her in the future for her own children.
x. Had an arranged marriage to Andras. Was hesitant but eventually learned that he genuinely did care for her. ( we love a toxic king )
x. Has a difficult time showing affection, as her own parents were very hands off unless it came to their personal wellbeing & education.
x. Always the mediator. It's her job to maintain some sort of peace amongst others, even if they're after each other's throats.
x. Always wanted children of her own, but terrified of becoming like her own mother. ( spoilers ; she is her mother. )
x. Focalors is her one true friend. She's always been the silent, awkward type so it made making friendships difficult.
A friendship that's so strong that anyone around them would assume they definitely gay. The best kind of friendship✨️
"Sephy~! Did you hear? It seems Satan and Lucifer have cooked up something entertaining and I'm taking part. Will you come watch?~" Focalors
Oh, those poor creatures who would have the unfortunate experience of being at the tail end of the trident. It would be.. entertaining, to watch the damn goose finally let loose some steam.
❝ Suppose someone must ensure you don't end up dying. ❞
She's never been a fan of senseless violence ; but if her stupid friend is involved, it'd be rude of her not to show support.
"Sephy~!" Focalors entered as if she owned the place, a bright smile on her beak. "It's been ages~! How are you?~" @a-hell-of-a-time
An internal cringe met with the summons of an unfortunate nickname. Persephone refused to let her eyes wander from the tea she had procured for the.. arrival of an old friend.
❝ Focalors. ❞ Offering a gesture of the open seat across from herself, not entirely against her company. ❝ It has been quite some time. Please tell me that this won't become a routine for you. ❞
Beyond understanding ; the shadows etched & writhed, admiring the absolute gall of her eldest son. To stand in front of not only the Rings for all to see, but to involve the Seven in matters that could have been handled in a more private manner.
❝ I utmost adore your commitment to the commands of your father, ❞ It had been true - Andrealphus being a second shadow to his sister had been his duty - the one thing he had control over. Apparently, not as tightly contained as one would believe it to be. Stella had always left a mess behind wherever she went ; expecting others to pick up the pieces & pretend.
It was of no use attempting to hide the mere disappointment. Talons gracefully reaching forth, only to grip Andrealphus' chin in a vice - but oh so careful not to cause damage to his perfect facade.
❝ But there are lines that cannot be crossed, little snowflake. ❞

Arriving at his mother's place, Andrealphus took a deep breath before knocking on the door. Sooner or later his parents were going to want to know the verdict, or at least hear it from him as confirmation of what they already knew. To put this off would only make matters worse, so he had done his best to stave off his anxiety and maintain the perfect appearance of calm that his mother taught him all those years ago.
An imp servant opened the door, ushering him inside and to the lounge where his mother was currently resting.
"Good evening, Mother," Andrealphus said calmly, standing upright while doing his best to keep his expression neutral.
In patience, Persephone awaited the arrival of her eldest. Ever so diligently, he was, to tell news of what transpired. Her children were good for one thing ; to bring updates when required. The servants were eager to allow the eldest to her, the shadows warning her of the arrival long before themselves. If she could count on a singular thing ; the darkness awaiting eagerly in every corner be her guide.
❝ Andrealphus. ❞ A reply, not so kind as sapphires stared down upon her only son, eager to see the flaw in his approach. Such a good boy he has always been, but to reward him of his deeds should only benefit his loyalty.
❝ Do tell me, has the sentencing has served you & your sister well? ❞
i don’t think i’ve ever seen you smile. ❜ Andre @a-hell-of-a-time
Smiles were for children ; those who knew what true happiness rests its weary head. The rare occasions where the Marchioness showed genuine emotion were fleeting, safe only for her husband & only then, he could not recall the last time she's smiled.
❝ Twice. ❞ A simple answer, not enough to placate the eldest's odd inquiry. Only twice had Persephone allowed the mask to break ; the hatchings of her little chicks was more than enough.
Not that she would ever vocally admit to showing such weakness, but if Andrealphus was as smart as she hoped he was, he'd know better. Not that he would remember, memory is quite the funny thing.
To Persephone, perception is EVERYTHING.
It's a burden to be constantly reminded that her children cannot seem to get their acts together. It's embarrassing, to see the children she RAISED & TAUGHT to behave like utter fools.
In the eyes of other Goetia, she feels as though she failed to keep their leashes tight & under control. Such pitiful wastes they became, & now she must suffer the consequences of their actions.
