He’d read about it in some old books, a technique that not many players used anymore. But he was exhausted and still hadn’t managed to come out of the double-loop-spiral the book described. Flying down, he headed inside, going right to the Great Hall for food before the game. If he was going to make it through, he’d need a good meal. Filling his plate with a pile of food and a large cup of coffee, he started shoving bacon into his mouth. “What’re you looking at me like that for? I’ve got to load up before the game, so I have energy!”

she looked at him, a bit disgusted by how fast he was eating and it was clear she was not keeping that disgust off her face. “right, the game.” she sighed, everyone cared so much about the match but she had no stake in it so she couldn’t possibly care less. “i know what carb loading is, but it looks gross the way you do it.”

Ever so lightly, Charity’s wand glowed as the words magically formed along the panels of the door. She had changed it up a bit, this was a special occasion. In her most riotous move, the Ravenclaw tagged the entrance of the Slytherin common room with her lovely, little pro-muggle words. That was until a step was heard behind her and she quickly turned with a whoosh of curly hair to follow. Her wand already prepped should she need to do a little get-away. “Well, this isn’t how I expected things to end tonight. But…you know…surprise.”

the head girl was on her way to bed after a long night of studying. exams were getting closer and closer and she had a reputation to keep up and expectations to live up to. when she turned the corner to find charity burbage tagging her common room door she sighed heavily, “really? why?” she pointed at the door, her arm going limp at her side, she was tired for merlin’s sake but now she had to stay up and deal with this.

。·:✧:· FIDGETING, EMILIA LOOKED down at her hands, trying to figure out the best way to ask at this point. She’d been trying to stand up to others, but also trying not to blow up in their faces. It was that weird point between dark and light that she struggled with. Emilia was a sweet girl, that was for sure, but she wasn’t sure how to do this properly. “I was hoping you knew how to get a boy to leave you alone. I’m really not interested in this guy and he just will not leave me alone and I’ve been asking everyone and no one seems to help. But he’s watching me from the other corner and I’m really freaked out.”

madeline stiffened, her whole body going rigid when she heard what the issue was. she didn’t take kindly to pushy people in general but a boy pursuing a girl when she’d said no was somehow more infuriating. she may not be close to emilie or eve know her that well but she wouldn’t stand for stalking or anything that came with it or after it. “what’s his name?” she pulled out a fresh scrap of parchment and scribbled a note on it to the other prefects and all the heads of house. everyone would know about this guy, then maybe he wouldn’t feel so safe. “and you can stay here with me as long as you need, i’ll walk you back to your dorm too. i can have other prefects walk with you so you’re not alone.”

if  the  words  ice  queen  had  been  made  for  someone  they  had  been  made  for  madeline  fawley ;  she  wore  the   limited   power  that  her  badge  granted  her  well  and  there  seemed  almost  to  be  a  perpetual  regality  about  her .  but  it  was  the  ice  that  seemed  almost  to  enthral  ellie ,  that  made  her  poke  and  prod  and  attempt  to  rile  the  older  girl .  she  wanted  to  break  it ;  ice  could  never  be  the  real  person  and  ellie  wanted  to  meet  her .  ❝  a  good  reason ?  oh !  you  mean  ‘cos  she’s  a  stuck  up  bitch .  yeah ,  i  am  aware , ❞   the  unspoken  implication  that  maybe  madeline  wasn’t .

“so if i say no, does that make me a stuck up bitch too?” she’d heard it all before; bitch, ice queen, horrid, evil. it came with the territory of being head girl unfortunately but she’d always let it roll right off her back. her spine was built on the insults others hurled at her. surely ellie could do no worse than what she’d already encountered name calling wise.

            a  wicked  grin  spread  across her  face ,  almost  an  all  together  sinister  thing .  the  quick  laugh  that  accompanied  it  doing  nothing  to  help  disuade  the  image  ellie  cast up .  but  for  once  ellie  sought  only  to  annoy ,  not  to  provoke  anger  as  she  normally did .  after all ,  wasn’t  variety  the  spice  of  life ?  “  well  you  share  a  dorm  with  ana ,  silly !  ”  she  chirped  in  a  singsong .  “  it’s  not  exactly  like  emma  would  help  me ,  ”

she didn’t trust ellie as far as she could throw her, and while madeline was deceptively strong she wouldn’t even bother lifting the blonde. the laugh made her cringe, she knew this was devious and she wasn’t really into it but maybe she could give it a try, pulling a prank. “ever think there’s a good reason emma won’t help? and if she won’t what makes you think i would?” she asked again, truly curious for once about how ellie’s mind worked.

she made a face, a mix of suspicion and confusion. “why in the world would you ask ME for help with a prank? that in itself is rather suspicious ellie.”

“I’m not trying to pick a fight. I just thought that you might want to ask me something, to get some clarity.” Emma rolled her eyes, shaking her head. She’d given her a chance in starting the conversation, what more did she have to do? “Which clearly isn’t the case, so that’s fine. Have a good day.” If she wanted to ask her about the rumors, Emma would answer truthfully, but just saying out of the blue that she never had sex with Amycus would not have come off as genuine. 

“if i believed those rumors emma i would have done more than ask you if they were true. but seeing as i put little stock into the hogwarts rumor mill i didn’t bother because accusing you of something like that didn’t feel right and i’d never do it. but if you’re so wanting to clear the air then go for it, just know i don’t need to hear it, i don’t need to be told it didn’t happen. my issues with amycus are mine, they aren’t fodder for anyone else and they shouldn’t be affecting you either and i’m sorry for that.” she said quickly, before she felt the tears prick at her ears and whispered “shit” under her breath.

she didn’t really want to talk about it, but then she needed to she supposed before she exploded with all the anger, frustration and confusion inside of her. “there are all these rumors around about amycus and emma, and i don’t really believe them but it’s hard to hear. and maybe i made a mistake breaking up with him too, i miss him so much, and people keep picking fights with me --- kicking me while i’m down. and i think my future isn’t what i worked so hard for it to be so changing what i want to do has been making the rounds in my mind. it’s just --- a lot.”

Because you were staring at me for a while there and I doubt it’s because you like my shoes.” It’s not like they spent much time one on one while she had been dating Amycus, so Emma couldn’t claim to know Madeline well, she had just gotten the feeling that the other didn’t like her for some reason.

“look, i’m not gonna stick around while you try to pick a fight. i wasn’t staring at you and i’m not about to be told i was doing something i wasn’t. is it looking at you a crime now? i’m done with this.” she turned to leave because she couldn’t handle yet another needless confrontation. and in truth she didn’t dislike emma, she just disliked the rumors floating around about her and amycus and didn’t want to believe them.

“oh i don’t --- i have nothing to say to you.” she said calmly and it was true. she didn’t fully ever believe amycus had cheated, she was just so scared, it would be easy for him. and unfortunately the rumor mill had named emma as the most likely person he would --- well, it was hard not to look at emma and worry, the girl was ambitious, beautiful and talented. but she didn’t encourage those rumors, she tried to ignore them, but it was just so difficult.

emmeline was a bit surprised to see the girl walk in, a warm smile stretched her lips, “i didn’t know you were out tonight as well–” pushing the plate and pot toward the middle, “with you? always –” 

“are you doing okay?” she was never one to beat around the bush and when it came to madeline, that was a given. she wasn’t going to act like she hadn’t heard about the breakup, “i could breakout the ice cream –”

“i wasn’t scheduled but i’ve been pretty restless.” she admitted, putting her hand out for food.

“oh --- well not really.” another thing to admit to, another thing to force herself to say out loud.
