Yuuri opened his eyes a few hours later to the sound of two voices. Viktor Nikiforov, and Yuri Plisetski.
“So, he is going to need surgery? That is total nonsense! He won’t be able to compete in the upcoming season.” The blonde, typically rage filled boy who was also named Yuri was speaking more on the quieter side but, he still sounded panicked.
“I know, I know. But we can’t change anything about it. All we can do now is be there for Yuuri. To support him. When he finds out, he’s going to be… overwhelmed. So, don’t be, well, you know…mean? Rude? You know, Yuri.” The older man was also talking quietly. As to not wake up the injured skater. Little did they both know. He was already awake.
“What are you guys talking about?” Yuuri finally spoke up. Directing his attention towards the two men.
“I- uh...lunch! Yes, lunch. We were talking about lunch. Hospital food is so disgusting. Right Yurio?” Viktor’s voice came across slightly startled.
“Oh, yeah totally! Lunch. Now that I think about it, I am starving! Welp. That is my queue to leave. I’ll leave you two to it, yeah?” The blonde said. Practically running out of the room. Slamming the heavy door behind him.
“I- What.” Yuuri said, mouth left agape in a confused manner. “What was that about?”
“Yuuri, we need to have a discussion. All right?” Viktor averted his gaze away from the boy.
“Uh, sure. About…?” Yuuri was beyond puzzled.
The air was filled with pure tension.
“While you were asleep” Viktor paused. “The doctor came into the room with your x-ray results.”
Viktor yet again took a long pause.
“Yeah. And?” Yuri stared intently at Viktor.
“And. You tore the ligament so badly in your ankle that you may need to have surgery. Meaning...You can’t be on the ice for at least 6 months or longer.”
“Six months or longer? Do you realize how crazy you sound right now? I can’t take a six month break! Do you know how far behind I would fall?” Yuuri’s heart started pounding. Like it was going 100 miles per hour.
“Yuuri, Yuuri. Sh, sh it’s okay now. Just calm down.” Viktor put a warm hand onto Yuuri’s back. Rubbing gentle circles onto it.
Yuuri, however, did not calm down. Was somebody choking him? No. He just couldn’t breathe. But, why? He couldn’t hear anything anymore. The ringing in his ears becoming increasingly loud. The world was spinning around him. He felt like he was dying. Oh god. Was he dying? No. He was fine. His career was just coming to a total end. Yeah. That’s all. His life was just over. Completely over.
His panic lasted for another 10 minutes. Viktor finally got him to calm down.
“Here. You should have some water.” Viktor stood up. Leaving Yuuri’s side for a brief moment. Returning with a half full glass of water.
“I-…I’m sorry. For all of that.” Yuuri said, taking the glass of water from Viktors hands.
“My love, you have absolutely nothing to be sorry for. I mean that. You’re going to get through this. If anyone I know could get through something like this. It’s you.” Viktor took back the cup once Yuuri was finished with it. Putting it on the bedside table that was next to the both of them.
“Let’s go home now. Yeah?” I think that will make you feel better.” Victor soothed.
“Yeah. I just want to go home.” Yuuri murmured.
