After years of practise, Julia could tune out everyone’s thoughts around her. It seemed that it wasn’t the most useful for her on a personal level with others. Unfortunately, she wasn’t the most empathetic of people but she certainly tried. As a woman with various responsibilities to herself and the others around her, she knew that she had to stay objective and not let herself be sucked into the thoughts of others. Growing up, it had been unbearable for her and she couldn’t shut anything out. Her talk of all the voices in her head greatly worried those around her and the worst part was, she knew what they thought of her yet she kept it to herself as she didn’t want to portray herself any more hysterical than she already had.
Walking down the hallway, the woman was plagued with extremely LOUD thoughts, ones that couldn’t be tuned down to a bearable volume. It was intrusive, she knew that and the teacher tried not to disrespect people by acting on their thoughts constantly but she also knew the importance of addressing these matters. The woman was extremely intelligent and perceptive; she felt the need to share with others her views, even if they weren’t necessarily desired. Feeling the ground shake, she knew that the other needed help. That never brought any good and it could even endanger others.
Julia couldn’t decide which was louder, the crash of metals colliding or the thoughts in the other’s head as she entered the room. “Lorna…” Her voice was calm, it always had to be, especially in this kind of circumstance. A cautious approach was most suited and she didn’t want to trigger the other further. “Deep breaths.” This was the time when the woman hated reading the minds of others; it wasn’t fair and she was intruding into their own personal feelings. The woman tried to avoid hitting certain subjects; she preferred the information to be given willingly even though she already knew what they were going to say.
Lorna looked up at the older woman, eyes much more vulnerable than she would like them to be. She nodded before glancing away and taking a couple of breaths. She focused on returning to her senses, on grounding herself. Finally, she looked back at the woman with a stronger expression.
“Just... I got frustrated. I want to be able to do more.”
