Maddie found it hilarious that the entire town had known about the two of them before they had; before they’d even sorted out their feelings, everyone had been secretly rooting for them to get together, and now here they were, married with two children. She loved her life, and everyone in it, especially her incredibly handsome husband. “I have to be someone’s favorite, I married Pembrooke’s golden boy!” Maddie joked, although it was true; all the kids thought Jack was the coolest, the little old ladies thought he was Superman in disguise- not that she could blame any of them. He was pretty damn wonderful, and she made sure to tell him that all the time. “I’m gonna hold you to that. And I think I’ll be on rocking Adelyn to sleep duty so you can have fun with the effects of the sugar,” She pecked her husband on the cheek before kneeling to pick up their daughter, who immediately reached out her roly poly arms to her dad. “Oh c’mon, I carried you for nine months, you jerk,” Maddie joked, kissing her curly head before passing her off to Jack, who was looking at her as if she were the light of his life. He was the cutest dad, hands down, and her children reveled in the love he showed them. “She is definitely daddy’s little girl. She has you wrapped around her little finger,” Maddie smiled. “Mommy, can I do presents now?” Caleb yelled from across the playground, where Hunter was currently holding the boy on his broad shoulders.
“Well I mean you knew the time of life that you were signing up for when you agreed to put a ring on it babe.” Jack couldn’t help but laugh at the thought, he wasn’t sure she had signed up for him being late to their wedding, or having amnesia and forgetting most of their relationship and the fact they’d been together and made a baby, but they were here now and that was the important thing. Them, Addie and Caleb they were all here and they were a family and if time had taught the two of them anything it was that they could deal with anything. “Don’t worry I’ll take the squirt for the night, a boy and his dad are supposed to have bonding time on their birthday didn’t you know that anyway.” Not that he knew, his dad hadn’t been around for as long as he could remember it had just been he and his mom. Anything he took from his parenting came from what he had learnt from Maddie’s father really, and from the others around Pembrooke he had come to know. Hell that kid Nate seemed to have a better handle on it that he did some days but so long as his kids laughed at the table and had warm clothes to wear, a bed to rest their head on then he would be one happy man. Taking Adelyn in his arms he cooed over the infant resting her in one of his arms securely as if she was as light as a feather so that his other arm hand could reach down and link in with Maddies fingers as they watched their son. “You’re right, but having me wrapped around her finger is a trick she learnt from her mother...as for the presents that’s your call, you are the boss right?”

They were so young, not even twenty years old yet, and for the majority of their relationship, they’d been long distance. Things had gotten a lot better since Kaylee found a job and friends, but there were still moments that were difficult, especially having serious talks over facetime or when she had a hard day, he wasn’t there to come home to. While that should’ve broken her heart, she’d slowly gotten used to not being so dependent on him, and she’d worked hard to build her life in Pembrooke. It was a different world from being away at school, or home in New York; maybe that was what scared her about his sudden proposal. They were so young, they were just starting their lives, and still changing more and more every day. “It- it’s just not that simple, I mean there’s so much we need to talk about. You go to a school hours away, and then you want to play ball professionally. You were never going to settle down in a small town like this, but me, I live here, this is home for me. I can’t ask you to give up your dream, because I don’t want you to wake up one day and resent me for it, just like I know you wouldn’t want me to resent you if you asked me to leave,” From the look on his face, Kaylee could practically hear his heart crumbling into pieces, and she hated the urgent tugging in the pit of her stomach to said this conversation wouldn’t end well. “That’s the thing, Fin, we both have so much we want to do with our lives, and we’re only nineteen! Maybe…in another year, or two…”
He knew that he should have been able to talk to her about this rationally, that he should have listened to what she was saying, sat down and talked about the fear she was having but all he could hear was a resounding no. “Kaylee these aren’t feelings that you just suddenly come up with on the spot, hell not even over night so do you want to tell me how long you’ve been planning on leaving me?” Fin asked, taking a large step away from her and out of her reach, letting the hands that moments ago had been cradling her fall to his side, fists clenched in a way his temper had always managed to catch no matter how good at controlling it he had gotten. All the words she said were logical, and he knew that she had a very valid point but they had survived this long and he really couldn’t see why she would already have such big doubts when he had given her no reason to not trust him, not in the past year or so anyway. He’d been a jerk early on but they had both made mistakes and misjudged each other back then and this felt like something entirely different. “So what this who time you’ve just what? Been playing house? Enjoying saying you’re dating me so you can live here in this house? What were you going to do, make sure you had enough money then just leave? If you didn’t want to be with me you could have just said something I’m sure my grandma would have let you stay anyway.” His voice had taken a malicious tone, one he hadn’t used for a long time, especially around her. “This whole time you just knew you were going to give up on us.”

The fact of the matter was, Hunter was no good for anyone until he healed. He’d spent so many years unhinged and angry, seeking out pain that he could control to help the whispers in his own head. His brother had helped him check into rehab after one of the more dangerous episodes, and he couldn’t thank Carter enough for the freedom that stay provided. He knew his brother wasn’t interested in sticking around Pembrooke, he wanted to follow Daisy to LA but refused until Hunter was in a good place. In fact, Hunter had received their wedding invitation the other day and it was hanging on his fridge, along with the plane ticket his brother had purchased for him. His life was slowly turning around, and while he hadn’t planned on blurting out his feelings to Jake in quite such a public manner, it felt as if a huge weight was lifted off his chest, to finally speak the words to her face to face instead of just over and over in his head. Now that he was doing better, and in a healthy place, all he wanted to do was let Jake know that all this time, his feelings for her hadn’t changed. Her words made his features soften and he gently cupped her face, thumbs grazing her cheekbones tenderly. “I’m learning how to love myself. It’s a process, but I’m in a better place than I was. I have all my meds adjusted, I’m seeing a counselor, and I’m okay. I’m not perfect- I’ll never be, but I want to be a good man for you. I did a lot of bad things and said a lot of things I didn’t mean, but if you give me a chance, I’d like to love you the way I should’ve from the start,” Hunter spoke softly, brushing a strand of hair from her eyes and leaning down to press his forehead to hers, arms moving to encircle her waist.
His touch was enough to make the girls eyes flutter closed for a second, letting herself enjoy the fact that he was touching her so tenderly again, taking in his warmth and the words falling over her ears. The softness of it all was enough to take her back to that first day, laid out in her bedroom with him stretched out on her bed at the side of her, turning away from her so that he could control himself and not ruin any chance at self restraint he had all because she had snuck one of her brothers beers at the time. It had been so simple at the start even with everything going on. “Well good, because god If I’m not tired of acting like I’m not still hopelessly in love with you either.” As much as the music had helped, and god if she hadn’t made a lot off of the album she had all but written about their time together and the heart ache that had come after, she’d much rather be with him than write all the love songs in the world. “One thing though, I need you to also agree you’re going to stop saying sorry, or saying that you weren’t enough before. I’m all for starting again but I don’t want to just forget all of that other stuff - let’s just learn from it.” She mused quietly, pressing herself into him as his arms wrapped around her. Jake couldn’t even bring herself to care that this news was probably going to spread like wild fire given the very public display he’d put on in the diner and the fact people inside could probably still see them now. Let them talk, she was just happy that this was finally happening and she wasn’t going to have to drag her eyes from him every time they all hung out as a group. “Now can you please for the love of god kiss me or I’m going to do it first.”
pembrookehearts:
It felt like it had been forever since they talked, even though he’d called her every night. There was just something different in being face to face with him, feeling his arms around her, seeing how warm his brown eyes were when he looked at her. Part of her still couldn’t wrap her head around him being here, when she’d thought he was coming home the next day. It was a shock, but a good shock, one that left her smiling and hugging him every chance she got. Once the door was shut behind them, all Kaylee wanted to do was curl up by his side and talk all night, enjoying the fact that they were in the same place again. With Finley away at school, and then away at camp, it had been a huge adjustment for Kaylee to make her life there, without him being a daily part of it. “I do not, I can be a pain in the ass sometimes,” The petite brunette protested with a grin, shaking her head at him as she leaned into his arms, resting against his chest. They had the last month of summer before he had to go back to school, and this would be the most time they’d spent together in a year; so why was there a nagging feeling in her stomach? When she heard his next words, it was like someone dropped a bucket of cold water on her and she could only stand still, staring at him. “W-what?”
“I might be a pain in the ass but at least I’m your pain in the ass.” He mused quietly as he looked down at her, taking in just having her there again. It was probably still strange to anyone that had known him before Kaylee, especially ones that hadn’t seen him go through learning to be with her. It was like he was an entirely different person now that he was with her, and though he was with her because he loved her, he couldn’t lie that he just liked the kind of person he had become thanks to her. Wrapping his arms around her the male gave a small sigh, resting his chin on the top of her head. Looking at the expression that had formed on his face though, he couldn’t help the way his heart began to race, the pace quickening at the very look she was giving him. What the hell. “That wasn’t the reaction I was expecting, I asked you to marry me...I love you. I want to be with you and I can’t imagine ever not wanting to love you or be with you.” The fact she wasn’t jumping with joy or crying or any normal reaction he had seen from all of those films that she had made him watch, wasn’t filling him with much hope for what her answer was going to be to the question. Had he missed something? He knew it wasn’t easy being away from each other and leaving her here this summer, but he didn’t think he had fucked up that badly. “Kaylee....”

Autumn sighed a bit; he knew her too well. After everything she had gone through, she had a lot of sleepless nights and when Ed was in bed with her, he tried his best to hold her close so she’d eventually drift off. “I just…don’t feel settled,” Autumn rubbed the back of her neck, avoiding his eyes as she kicked her feet. She hated what she put him through; they had tried their best since they got home to Pembrooke to put it behind them, to get back to their lives, but she still felt as if she had to look over her shoulder. After she’d run away from home the first time, life hadn’t been kind to her. She’d had no way to make money to pay for bus tickets, which lead to an arrest for possession and solicitation, but she was luckier than most; the sergeant who arrested her took her in, helped her get clean, and helped her find a job that she ended up loving. Her past wasn’t something she was proud of, and when she’d met Eddison after being in a car accident, she certainly never planned on telling him everything. It was only after she left Pembrooke and went back to New York that her past caught up to her, the danger seeming worse than before now that she had people who loved her and would miss her. When it was just her, she could be a little reckless because no one would really notice if she was gone. Sometimes Autumn just looked at her life now in amazement, wondering how she’d managed to get so lucky. “Are you happy, Ed?” It was out of the blue, but sitting above the quiet town, her head resting on his shoulder, she wanted to know if he felt as lucky as she did. If she was able to make him as happy and loved as he’d made her.
“Well I don’t mind your company so don’t worry.” He mused quietly. Rolling with her moods were just one of the things he had come to deal with. It wasn’t how he had imagined that things were going to go when he pulled her out of the car, she’d been a fairly large whirlwind in his usually quiet life, resulting in him doing things he hadn’t known he was capable of before he had done the things he had to keep her safe. That wasn’t what worried him though, that wasn’t what kept him awake or plagued his thoughts - no it was that he would do it all over again and more to keep her safe and out of the way of anyone that would hurt her ever again. It was the things he had learnt about himself, that was what worried him the most. He’d deal with it though the same way he did everything else, quietly and calmly and by himself unless he really needed anyone else. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Autumn to be able to deal with it, he just didn’t want her to have to, she’d been through enough, he wanted to be strong and secure for her and nothing more. Her question was enough to surprise him at least, he didn’t think that it was something that she would have ever doubted. “What do you mean? Of course I’m happy Autumn with you, this? Just getting to be with you? That’s the happiest I’ve ever been.” He’d been fine before sure, but he’d been living the day to day, now he was someone to come home to, someone to lay his head in their lap after a hard shift, he had a family. “Are you happy?”

One thing she hated was taking anger out on Nate; she really tried not to, but sometimes there was no one else on the receiving end and she just felt as if she might scream. “Old habits die hard,” Was her only reply, memories of counting calories and hours at the gym floating through her mind in a way that made her bad mood worse by the minute. All of a sudden, she was acutely aware of the bowl of cereal she had for breakfast that morning, and the sugar in the latte she’d bought while shopping. It was different for guys and girls, she knew that, and she knew that Nate was being completely honest when he said he loved her no matter what she looked like, but it was kind of easy to say when he hadn’t changed- if anything, his abs got better and he grew facial hair that was pretty hot. She tried to force a weak smile at his kind words, but all she managed was a wobbily one before a tear slid down her cheek. It just all felt like too much; like things were so good for so long and now it felt as if she wanted to crawl out of her skin. “She’s sick, uh, stage four lymphomic cancer. She stopped responding to treatments a few weeks ago,” The words left a bad taste in her mouth, even though it just sounded as if she were quoting one of her textbooks. Her chin wobbled and she began twisting the hair tie on her wrist, a nervous habit from years past.
“I’ve always loved all of you, remember that.” He loved this new side of her sure, and seeing her become the mother she was, watching as she took others under her wing, studied for a better life for herself? They were all amazing and Nate loved every part of her, but he’d loved her long before she learnt to love herself too and seeing a little bit of that wasn’t going to stop him from loving her now. This side of her though? The one where she allowed herself to crack and show any sign of weakness he knew that this was one was reserved for just him and though he felt honored she trusted him enough, he hated it. Thankful that their son was a pleasant child and wasn’t about to kick off any time soon if his babbling made sense, Nate wasted no time in pulling over the second he realized that she was crying. His hand moving from where it had been on the stick to rest on her leg, turning in his seat so that he could look at her better. “What do you need me to do?” He wasn’t going to ask her how she was, or how she was feeling, he very much doubted that she knew herself at the minute. It was no secret that Rylan and her mother didn’t have the happiest of histories, and the male himself had threatened to remove her from his wives life unless she started playing nicely so he wasn’t sure how he felt himself. This wasn’t about him though, it was about her. “Just tell me what you need or where you want to go and I’ll deal with it.”

it was as good a town as any to move to if one was looking for a quiet place to work, and that’s precisely what jax had found in pembrooke. writing a book in a city as busy as new york was simply unproductive, and he found he had to set aside a dedicated time to complete his novel before his publishers began calling him incessantly. it was an added bonus that his novel was on prolific serial killers that operated in the south; the travel necessary for fact checking would be easier if he was already settled in virginia for the time being. so he’d rented a loft in the little town above the pharmacy, and settled in to write enough chapters to get his agent off his back. jax had stayed up far too late the night before, and had a little too much to drink, so the short walk down the block to get a latte felt excruciating in the bright, summer sun. the line seemed hilariously long for such a small town, so he leaned against the wall, only to have the front door knock into him with a jingling bell that made him squint in annoyance. “jesus, why?” the man muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose. “why is the entire town getting coffee right now? i have to buy a decent coffee maker one of these days,” jax grunted, mostly to himself. @pxmbrooke
“you’d think there was other things to do in such a place.” nora hummed as she looked down at the male who seemed to be regretting whatever choices he had made the night before. she could relate to that, her life had been a string of bad choices, running away from home at 16 to be with the boy her parents warned her about. falling into drugs, doing whatever he wanted just because they were his ‘friends’. the morning she would cry in the shower only to fall back in the habit of needing that high he could get her by mid afternoon. it was how she had gotten so good at putting up a mask, when you did something for years it just became a habit after a while. smile, pretend, be normal - hide the bruises. but she was better now, or at the best least she was trying with the help of autumn, now she just had to make sure she kept her head low, kept herself away from the bad types of people and away from anyone who made her feel like less than herself, an easy feet these days it seemed given everyone in this town seemed to be sunshine and daisies. well everyone except for this one. probably not a local, she had learnt to pick them out pretty easily. “i am sorry for knocking you with the door though, i was just coming out here to wait for my order to be ready rather than contend with....all of that.”

Finley coming home early was like Christmas, her birthday, and Halloween all rolled into one for her. She’d spent almost every night facetiming with him, but nothing beat the feeling of his arms wrapping around her and his lips pressing against hers. Her whole body wriggled with excitement as they embraced, two months was simply too long to be apart from the one you loved. Maybe that’s what she loved about this town; there was love all around. Whether it was the love of a family, or friends, or the way that soulmates seemed to materialize across the town line- it was just a town filled with joy and good people. “They definitely can,” Kaylee giggled, holding on tightly when he lifted her off her feet and carried her inside. His grandma had gone to her weekly meeting of the knitting society of Pembrooke, so the house was quiet, save for the happy voices of two lovers reunited. “You say the sweetest things to me sometimes,” She whispered, her cheeks rosy with happiness as she pulled him down to her height to kiss him firmly. “I want to hear all about camp. Do you need to eat, are you hungry? Or do you need to shower? We can just lay in bed and make out and talk in between if that works,” She rambled, bouncing from one foot to the other while never once letting go of his hands.
The boys had tormented him to no end at the camp he had been to. Once upon a time that would have been enough for him to act out, to show he was still one of the boys, his reputation meaning more to him than just about anything. But now? He couldn’t even bring himself to care, he had happily sat on facetime to her, listening to her day no matter how much he didn’t get the inner workings of a pre-school kid, just so that he could look at her on the screen. She was all his, and he was going to enjoy it. Kaylee just wasn’t something that he could replace. “You make it fairly easy to be sweet.” He wondered if she knew just how much she had fixed him, how much she had pieced him together even if she didn’t know. Finley had been rotten good before she had gotten her hands on him and even now, as she rambled n about taking care of him, firing a million questions he was sure he would get to at some point, all he wanted to do was sit and listen to her. He wanted to listen to her for the rest of his life. “Hey Kaylee....” The male trailed off slowly as he looked down at her, reaching to pull her closer to his frame again, all smiles from his face dropping for a second to be replaced with something more serious before his soft question sounded between the two of them. “Will you marry me?”

Aaron could only roll his eyes at his girlfriend as she continued teasing him, although he was admittedly relieved that Danny had given up on chasing after Maggie. Not that he thought she would ever cheat, but it was the disrespect that bugged him the most. The news about Hunter and Jake had made him pretty damn happy- that was one of his closest friends and the man needed to allow himself to be happy. He’d been punishing himself for awhile now, staying away from Jake in order to keep himself from being a toxic part of her life, but with all the growth Aaron had seen in Hunter just since they’d been home from school, it was clear that the feelings were still there for both of them. “You know him and Kat are sleeping together- anyone with eyeballs can see that. I guarantee you, one of them is into the other, and are totally in denial,” He pointed out knowingly, speaking from experience. This town had a mystical way of bringing lovers together, so much so that he contemplated adding it to the ‘welcome to Pembrooke’ sign that was at the city limits. “Don’t test me, you know how stubborn Rylan is? It runs in the family- we like being right,” Aaron taunted, although he didn’t push the shirt thing since she had a jacket on and her bralette admittedly looked like a crop top. She’d really come out of her shell over the last few years, and it was a good look on her; not that she wasn’t always beautiful, but there was an undeniable pull to her now that Aaron loved. “I offer every time I go to the gym to take you with me- not that you need it, but I’d rather us go to the gym than quit pizza,” He whined a little, leaning across the center console of the truck to press a swift kiss to her lips before beginning the five minute drive to the pizza place.
Maggie could only agree with her boyfriend when it came to the conclusion he had made about the intruders they had had to deal with for the summer. After all she had a pair of eyes, and even she could recognize the looks of longing hidden behind the look of something else. “Of course they’re sleeping together, the tension between them was barely containable as it was and then they came here for the summer - really it’s like they asked for it, or at the very least missed the sign warning on the way in. Caution, Pembrooke causes unusual romantic feelings among residents.” A fact she was pretty sure could be proved with science if you looked into it hard enough around this place. Matching his glare Maggie tried her very best to remain serious though she couldn’t keep the smirk from flittering over her lips. She hadn’t ever been able to deny him anything long before she had been able to admit just how much she loved him, so it wasn’t like she was about to start now, but she could at least put up a pretty good fight. “You may share the stubborn gene, but she’s been teaching me a few tricks, little do you know I have a whole heap of tricks and tips stashed up my sleeve for a rainy day.” Sliding herself into the trick with him Maggie turned lifting her knee a little as she looked over at him. Now it was her time to play dirty. Following his lips as he pulled away from the kiss, Maggie caught them with her own again, a slower kiss between the two of them, his lip caught between her teeth for just a second. “I prefer the other work out options you provide to me, I told you that.” She hummed quietly before she tucked herself into her side of the seat again.

She had to admit, she was more relaxed after this vacation than she had in a long time. Zane had insisted on whisking her away for a little time together, away from filming his show and her work. Yes, she’d missed their friends, but the two of them had spent every minute together and neither was sick of the other- that was how you knew you were in love. “I guess that’s fair, plus you make a comfy chair,” Bri snickered, all curled up with a content little smile on her lips. She remembered the day she met Zane, how she’d met his skepticism with disdain and somehow, some way, they’d ended up here, hopelessly in love and settled in the very town he’d professed to despise. It had worked it’s magic on him, though, the same way it had with her. It was the kind of place that gave you a home when you weren’t even looking for one, and they’d made their home there in the end. “Oh, at least one girls night, some karaoke, probably a big group date night- oh my god, did I tell you Hunter and Jake are finally back together? Rylan texted me!” Bri chattered on, although her dark eyes drooped in a sleepy manner the longer Zane’s fingers danced along her spine. “We all do, no offense to Nate,” She chuckled quietly, her lashes tickling his jaw as she closed her eyes and gave into the exhaustion that took over. When she woke up and checked her phone, it was an hour later and Zane had gently set her in her own recliner at some point before disappearing. “He better have gone to get food,” She muttered, pulling up a text to Maggie to check in.
“I mean I’d really rather you were sat on me for other purposes, but I guess I can make this work too.” Zane hummed though he had no qualms about letting his hand slide from where it was rested on her back to let it cup her ass for a few moments. He hadn’t even been shy, not even with his affections and that was only intensified with Bri, someone he already felt was worth far more than he was. He was about to react with a rather fake sense of horror that came with the mention of a group date, one he was sure would happen but at the news of Hunter and Jake finally getting their act together, the male simply scoffed, internally he couldn’t have been happier for them but that didn’t mean he was going to outwardly shout about it. “Took them about a year too long so it’s damn time if you ask me.” Realizing her eyes were dropping where he held her in place on his lap, Zane gave a small smile, letting himself watch her for a few moments before resting his head back. If this was happiness, he would take it for the rest of his life, because there was nothing he could imagine ever topping the feeling of utter content this woman had brought to his life. How Joel laughed at him now, the taunting from him and Sierra never ending when they made their way into town or he visited them in LA. Only the sensation of his leg going ever so slightly numb prompted the male to shift, gently setting Bri down on the chair and making sure he had the bag’s secured so no one could fiddle with them whilst she was sleeping and he was stretching his legs. Spending far more money than was normal in an airport shop with extra gifts Henry had no need for but he was now apparently getting until he landed upon food and had something to take back. Two burritos and soda’s later Zane smiled at the sight of Briana awake again. “Hey sleepy, back with the land of the living?”

If this was a year ago, or even a few months ago, Hunter would’ve made a scene throwing this guy around. There’d be broken chairs, coffee on the floor, and more than one black eye. But he’d done a lot of growing up lately, something he’d worked really hard to do. He got his meds adjusted and saw his counselor regularly, doing all that he could to make responsible, adult choices. He had kids who counted on him, kids that needed someone constant in their lives, and he didn’t want to let them down. So instead of wiping the floor with the jackass who was currently smirking up at him as if he were a joke, he said his piece and left, feeling his heart thumping in his chest. It was a huge moment for him, backing away from a fight and still feeling like a man; but then they were outside and Jake was sputtering indignantly and Hunter was dragged back to the present where he’d just come clean about his not so secret feelings for Jake. “I do mean it, Jake. Hell, I was gonna plan a much more romantic way of telling you, but I guess shit happens,” His smile was tentative and crooked, boyish in a way that he hadn’t smiled in awhile. “I’m done trying to act as if I’m not still totally in love with you. I’m over it, I’m over pretending I don’t want to be yours again- that’s all I want. I know I fucked up, so many times, so if I’ve read things wrong and you don’t want this, please- tell me. But I want you, Jake Young. I love you, and I always have,” It all came out in a big breath, as if he’d been holding it in for years- which he sort of had.
For someone who always had a lot to say, she wasn’t sure she had the capacity to put into words how proud of Hunter she felt as she looked up at him. There were countless times she had had to pull him off of someone whilst they had both been in school, and then after, with the fights he had gotten himself involved in? As if he was purposely looking for pain, she had become accustomed to finding him with bruises about his person. Now all she could do was watch on with pride as he backed away from Danny. “Hunter...” Whilst she had always envied her brother and Rylan, envied everyone in this damn town really, the more she had gotten away from Pembrooke she wasn’t sure that they were actually all sane. How could they be? Who met the love of their lives so young and had it all figured out. Why didn’t they go through the same heartbreak that she had? Love didn’t happen the way it did in her stories, the way it did in this town? Then she had started to doubt whether or not it was just her? Hunter always claimed he was so broken, but maybe the fault lay with her really - and now here he was, saying everything she had wanted to hear from him for years and every doubt she had in her mind - it seemed to fade away. Letting him finish Jake looked up at him for a second, her face a picture of a whole heap of emotions at once. “I know you just said you’re in love with me, but I need you to tell me that’s enough, I’ve survived losing you once, but I don’t think I can do it again and I can’t love you this much and potentially make things bad for you again.....I need to know you love yourself as much as you love me before I can tell you I love you back and fall in to your arms again Hunter.”

Katrina simply rolled her eyes, knowing that as much as he complained about it, he wouldn’t have wanted to go home anymore than she had. Pembrooke, as tiny and weird as it was, seemed to be the place to call home, at least until school started up again. “Virginia Beach is only like two hours away, we can go this weekend if that will make you stop bitching,” She patted his head in a patronizing manner, which she knew would set him off- her sloped smirk was proof of that. Teasing him was just so much fun, and it got him all riled up. “Whatever helps you sleep at night, baby,” Katrina couldn’t help but tease him, shaking her head and grabbing the pool stick chalk from the side. If she were being honest, she did need a partner for a dance showcase she had coming up at the end of the summer; one that, if she won, she’d have a chance at finishing up her last two years of college at George Mason where they had a far superior dance program. She wasn’t about to spill her dreams to Danny, since for one thing, he didn’t care, and for another, that wasn’t what they did. They joked, they hooked up, and they caused chaos. “There’s no reason you can’t do both, I mean, there’s nothing sexier to a dancer than a man who can dance,” Not to mention if she didn’t have a partner, her chances of being noticed in the showcase went down significantly. She reached over and plucked his beer off the table, taking a long sip before setting it back down and chuckling when he muttered about her cheating. “Oh yeah? Is that a promise?” Kat murmured in his ear, tugging him by his belt loops closer to her, her lips hovering over his. “You talk a big talk, Danny, like you don’t think I can take whatever you’ve got,”
At her suggestion the male didn’t even hesitate or try and hide the way that his eyes lit up. “Yes, yes that is exactly what I want to do this weekend, and if you back out on me I’m going to leave your ass here in this town all by yourself.” He needed at least a small break from here if she was going to make him wait out the rest of the summer in this place till they were back at school, and the beach for the weekend sounded like the perfect solution. “Oh please tell me you’re going to take that hot little yellow two piece I know you have packed in your case.” Swerving from her hand he swiped her hand away from his hair, reaching to push it back into place again for a second. As she continued to try and taunt him into joining her to dance Danny shook his head, all he had wanted was a quiet summer, and she was right, he would have been loosing his head if he had gone home, but this was a close second and if you added dancing to that, well he might as well just have let himself be at the mercy of his parents. “I’m not doing it, I might however come and watch you at your best. I do love those little piece of fabric you dance in.” And maybe if it didn’t look so hard he would, hold her hand of whatever it was that she needed if it was hard, well then he had never been interested in the first place had he. “And you say that like I’m not already sexy as hell and you don’t already struggle to keep your hands off of me.” Looking down at her, Danny shook his head, a crooked smirk tugging at his lips. “Baby girl keep going, your mouth is causing trouble your body isn’t going to be able to cope with later.”
