Itās been 10 years???? Omfggggg
Your regular reminder that flint still doesnāt have clean water, but nestle does and makes residents pay for itā¦
Let that man go
can we talk about this lady please? How she was an elderly, single woman who literally left all of her property to her cats and how the artists could have just made her a stereotypical crazy old cat lady but instead they made her absolutely fabulous and graceful and she still twirls in front of her mirror like sheās pretending to be a princess at age 60/70/80-something?
and in no way condemned her for never marrying/having kids
Ohhhhhhh Now I know why I always wanted to be a cat lady
And sheās a retired opera performer! (Carmen was her favorite role.)

Jury nullification. Pass it on.
JuryĀ nullificationĀ is so fucking important.
This is something that more people should be aware of, if only because (in many states, at least) defense attorneys are actually prohibited from mentioning it to jurors. The law allows a jury to return a ānot guiltyā verdict contrary to the facts of the case, but not for the defense to inform them of that power or to argue for its application in the current trial.
I didnāt know about this. Wow.
always reblog
This is SUPER IMPORTANT and also a good reason to show up for jury duty. You know all those laws you think are stupid? This is your chance to maybe do something about it.Ā
Iā¦. I thought this was common knowledge⦠signal boosting this because it obviously isnāt!
Did not know this
Jury nullification in the United States has its origins in colonial British America. Similar to British law, in the United States jury nullification occurs when a jury in a criminal case reaches a verdict contrary to the weight of evidence, sometimes because of a disagreement with the relevant law.
YALL REMEMBER THIS WHEN JURY SUMMONS START GOING OUT IN AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER FOR THE PEOPLE WHOVE BEEN ARRESTED PROTESTING IN MAY AND JUNE
This is graphic but VERY important. Iām MF TIED of pro lifers who cannot see further than the end of their nose
Iām just gonna leave this here.
remember that police brutality wonāt end with the ballot box in november. it wonāt stop just because a democrat is in office. ferguson happened while obama was president. standing rock happened while obama was president. he deployed the national guard for these. his response was just as severe to these communities as trumpās; he just wasnāt so public about it. police brutality and systemic racism are not political problems but SYSTEMIC problems. this means that the system causes it, not the president, governor, senator, congressman, or city council. if you want this to end, you have to go beyond right or left wing, and dismantle the entire system. if you think this is going to end in november, youāre sorely mistaken; theyāll just get better at hiding it.
Activism is not one and done. Please continue to provide resources. Continue to sign petitions and attend protests. Activism is a long and continues fight for justice that will never end. There will always be something that needs to change and we need to be the ones to drive that change. So please, I'm begging you, when your dash becomes "normal" again and the George Floyd posts begin to fade, continue to fight. This battle doesn't end once the media turns away, so keep screaming, keep shouting at the top of your lungs, please continue to fight for justice.

On Sixth Anniversary Of Flint Water Crisis, Flint Still Has No Backup Water Source
Flint, MIāOn the sixth anniversary of the Flint water crisis, Flint is again in the midst of a crisis.
Six years after the disastrous switch to the Flint River as a source of drinking water for the city, which led to an outbreak of Legionnaireās Disease and toxic levels of lead leaching into the water, the city remains in violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act for not having a reliable secondary drinking water source.
Mayor Sheldon Neeley sent a stern message to Flint city council Monday to, āfinish the job,ā referring to the 21-inch diameter, five-and-a-half-mile pipe, that would connect Genesee Countyās water system to Flint. The pipe would ensure that should the current system, which pulls Lake Huron water via Detroit, fail, Flint would have a readily available source of water.
As of now, the only backup source the city has are water reservoirs, which would only supply residents with drinkable water for a matter of days. If anything, such as a major line break or any other unpredictable event that could compromise the cityās water, itās unclear where Flint would go next once the reservoirs run dry. āThe results could be catastrophic,ā Neeley said.
The city, per federal law, must have a secondary source of water. The proposed project would be paid for by an Obama era bill, the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act. The act authorized $100 million in funding for āFlint, Mich., to recover from the lead contamination in its drinking water system.ā According to the EPA, $87 million of that money has not been spent.
The proposed backup system was due to be completed in December of 2019 at a cost of $14.7 million in federal funds. On Monday, the council again voted 4 to 4 delaying construction. Ā A majority vote of six would be needed from the nine-person council to reconsider the contract before they could revisit the project.

Hydroviv was founded as a response to the Flint water crisis and is providing filters to people who need them, not just in Flint but other cities as well, at cost. Mariās fund is trying to reach its third goal of $200,000. Pictured but not linked: https://www.gofundme.com/f/TeamMariWater
Of course, the point of the article is that filters would not be as vital if the local gov would DO THEIR FUCKING JOB, WITH MONEY THEY WERE ALREADY GRANTED.
