There is a large part of the community that likes rpf and multiple creators, some you have worked with, have said they're completely fine with it as long as it's tagged properly... and you want those tags to be removed?

It's literally the easiest thing to filter on ao3, if you don't like it you don't have to ever interact with it my dude.

Context:

It's not that I don't know rpf exists, I'm very aware it exists. I mostly just jumped on the opportunity to mention the. REAL LEGAL NAME IN THE MCYT TAGS ???? The username alone is 100% enough for filtering reasons. No one is looking up mumbo jumbo fics by searching "Oliver Brotherhood" ??? Like I still don't understand why that's the default to have their real name tag even for rpf.

But, for the sake of answering the ask and making myself clear, no one said they wanted the rpf tag removed completely.

I believe most people actually don't like sharing a tag. RPF and FPF (Fictional Person Fiction) authors. There are rpf authors on that post agreeing it should be separate.

RPF and FPF are VERY VERY DIFFERENT fic genres. Forcing both fic types to post under the same "[character] (video blogger rpf)" tag is annoying to both sides. Video blogger RPF should be removed from the character tag or we should get a matching "[character] (minecraft character FPF)"

And like you said, RPF is already its own tag so it just makes the entire tag list of a fic look repetitive with the words "video blogger RPF" repeated over and over for NO REASON.

I looked up a random Vampires SMP fic and this just seems unnecessary for everyone.

That is to say, this is a very complicated topic and I understand that. So I'm open to more opposing opinions! Especially if we're making a petition, there should be multiple povs considered.

Though, if I make a petition/support ticket, I don't think I'd include the "(video blogger RPF)" complaint. I'm more focused on full legal names in the tag.

rpf and fpf cannot be separated. this is just not a thing that can ever happen. ao3 does not like ambiguity in tags and their synonyms, and that is about what 95% of mcyt-related tags are like. if we were to have separate tags for rpf and fpf, there is no way to know what an ambiguous tag of, let's say, "shubble" is referring to. if we were to assume fpf because most mcyt works are fpf, that would end up with any rpf work also using that tag still ending up in fpf. and if we were to asume it's rpf because it doesn't have any ! differentiators, then 99% of fpf would end up in rpf anyways, because most ao3 users don't use ! when making tags.

having a rpf and fpf divide would require all ao3 users to all agree to and remember to specify whether it's fpf or rpf in every single tag mentioning a character/person, which is just unrealistic and impossible, especially with years (and over a decade, for older fandoms) of backlog. it's really more of an issue of ccs using the same name for themselves and their characters - characters with completely separate names do get their own tags, like fragrance man (osmp schlatt) or beep (bsmp tubbo).

in your screenshot, video blogging rpf isn't repeated over and over "for no reason" how ao3's system works is if a character only has one name, we attach a disambig (the name of the fandom they're from in parenthesis) to the end. because we don't know a lot of mcyt's legal names/some have asked us not to use them, we have to attach video blogging rpf to make the name unambiguous. all of our guidelines are open to the public, you can read about our naming-related policies here.

with all that in mind, as mcrp and vbrpf need to be intertwined, we have to follow vbrpf guidelines, which require legal names to be listed when available. we don't use any names that aren't found easily found on the front page of google, and remove names when ccs voice discomfort. having their real names present is also what lets a lot of them drop the vbrpf disambig.

please do not send in tickets/start a petition or encourage others to do so. support is swarmed with requests as is, and this is something we just can't change.
