Spelling

The e-Book Organizing Our Marvellous Neighbours by Joe Clark is a thorough look at the differences between Canadian, British and American spellings of English words, and I recommend it highly. I will briefly describe the major differences in day-to-day life:

The Extra U: words that end with -or in American end with -our in Canada. This is for words like harbour, colour, neighbour.

Words that end with -er in American commonly end with -re in Canada. This is for words like theatre and centre.

The double L: words that end in -eled -eling get a double L in Canada. This is for words like cancelled and travelling.

Some words with a double L in English get a single L in Canada. This is for words like instalments.

Words that end in -ize still end in -ize in Canada.

Words like defense should technically be defence but only if you’re writing for the CBC.

Words that end in -og end in -ogue, such as monologue, dialogue, and catalogue.

Some words that end in -eck end in -que, such as paycheque.

Instead of “expiration,” Canadians say, “Expiry.”

30 Day Splits Challenge

I’ve decided to give the 30 Day Splits Challenge a shot.  I’m trying to make a change and not go into this with extremely high expectations like I usually do.  I’m just going to take it day and by day and see how it goes.  I’m not even expecting to get my splits; I’m just hoping for some noticeable improvement.
