Question for the project hail mary book readers/ avid fans, my father is a science nerd and HATES when movies make illogical choices, but when we watched the movie he could accept the comas, light speed travel, xenon as a solid, etc, as cool and intriguing but 1 big gripe he had with the plot was when they are doing the maneuver over adrian (planet) and grace must get out of the mary while in dangerous orbit and bring the sample back inside the ship.

His logic was, if rocky is such an advanced engineer, why couldn't they create a system like the Blip A message (Blip B/C) sending arm to get the sample closer to the opening for Grace to retrieve? Or, why couldn't the retrieval system and samples survive the trip back out to space?

TLDR, was there a science explanation for why Grace himself had to retrieve the sample in the book?
