and also. every time there is a discussion about how female characters are less appreciated in fandom than men, there's always a crowd that says "no one is forced to like female characters". ok but why dont you think about that. why can you spend hours and hours talking about a man who had 30 minutes of screentime but cannot dedicate ANYTHING to a female character who is at the center of the story? BG3 male NPCs will have more dedicated fandoms than characters like shadowheart, and then people swear there is not an implicit bias. "well talk more about your fave female characters then/create more works instead of bitching" we are already doing that mary, but guess what. theres still less people in female character fandoms than male ones. we're ALREADY doing our part while people refuse to examine why are things like this and act like its fine and normal.

when creating glinda i fear that gregory maguire and stephen schwartz and winnie holzman were messing with forces that they didn't understand because they accidentally created a character who was biochemically designed to make internet lesbians go feral over her. like they took a conventionally attractive white woman and gave her a regina george mean girl streak that she uses to homoerotically bully her female roommate whom she secretly finds attractive. but then her love wins out and she decides to give her roomie a sexually charged makeover and elevate elphaba into social acceptance. and it's slowly revealed that actually she's a sad lonely little freak who just wants to be loved :((( but no one loves the real her :(((. and even though she fucks up a lot everything she does is cuz she loves this girl so so much and her love for this girl makes her not a horrible person. but by the end she's the most powerful woman in oz or an extremely wealthy, attractive widow. glinda upland is to lesbians as kylo ren and draco malfoy are to straight women. we need to kill her

Two things regarding this shot in particular:

1) It’s framed like a wedding. I’m actually flabbergasted at how romantic it is. Glinda with her veil, Elphaba in black. “I now pronounce you Wife & Wife” typa shot;

2) Maybe it’s silly of me, but after being teased so many times with the shot of Elphaba putting on her hat, my heart nearly trembled with happiness at actually seeing her with the hat on in this scene. That’s my Witch of the West. That’s my Elphaba.
