Her breath hitches in a moment, eyebrows furrowing in a moment of confusion. Oh, but Dawn wasn’t a stupid girl. Unbelievably naive, yes. But she is smarter then she lets on. Dawn quickly understood what Cynthia is going for. Not only her pokemon would be badly hurt from the spikes, but they’ll be inflicted. The damage from the poison will only get worse with every turn– damn. Cynthia isn’t a champion for nothing.
“Sugar, watch out!” Dawn warned to her flying type. After her doubles were getting demolished, Sugar acted on reflexes and dodged the spikes aimed at her. Damn it. She’s a speedy girl, but an illusion is still an illusion. She managed to barely dodge the whirlwind in a nick of time. Oh, she loves a good rush.
“Ride the winds of the whirlwind, and fly up!” Dawn motioned her arm upwards, ending with a point of a finger pointing to the sky. Sugar heeds her call. The flying type gains immense traction with the whirlwind being used to their own beneift. She wasn’t flying anymore– she was gliding with smooth ease. If there’s a trick a coordinator must keep in mind, it’s to always take advantage of the opponents move for themselves. As Sugar goes up, there was a brief moment when she reached to the climax of the sky. Her entire body covered the sun shining in the sky– she was a solar eclipse of her own.
“FLY DOWN! AND USE PROTECT!”
With no moment to lose, Sugar flies down with massive speed, a shield forms around her while at it. Suspense builds.
Even more speed builds up, Sugar screeching with delight at this point. With a harsh turn, she boomed behind the Steel-flying type, resulting a hard hit.
wh--oh, wow. that bird is fast. cynthia didn’t even have time to shout a command to let her skarmory dodge. thankfully, her own bird’s steel typing meant that it didn’t take as much damage as another pokémon would have, but if dawn persisted, that meant skarmory would soon be knocked out…
no matter. skarmory isn’t meant to be an attacking pokémon anyway, and the layer of spikes have been set up on the other side of the field. it’s meant to set up and then get out…if she could stall staraptor for long enough, it would be less of a threat. more interesting to cynthia was the fact that her staraptor seemed none the worse for wear. she hadn’t taken any damage, and looked just as healthy as before. could it be…could it be that dawn’s protect had prevented the bird from suffering recoil? she makes a mental note of it. definitely something she can use in the future.
a plan begins to hatch in her mind, and her next command puts it into action.
“spikes again, pure scatter.”
another row of spikes, this time not as extravagant as the previous one, descends on the ground below. unlike the previous row, they seem to be aimed randomly, a decent amount being tossed in sugar’s direction but certainly not on purpose. she’s leaving herself open, waiting for an attack…what could possibly come afterward?
