Happy birthday to everyone's favourite Bashir enthusiast but definitely not a spy, and naught but a simple tailor, Andrew Robinson who is of course known for playing Garak on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Garak was a former operative of the Cardassian intelligence agency, The Obsidian Order before being exiled after escaping an attempt at ending his life.
He would find himself on Terok Nor which would soon become the Federation space station Deep Space Nine.
Once the Federation and Bajor took control of the station, Garak would remain, running his tailor shop on the Promenade, which would lead him to cross paths with the eager Starfleet Doctor Julian Bashir, a meeting which would begin a long and complex relationship between the two (giving birth to the Garashir ship) and while at the time never explicitly stated, their attraction was clearly beyond platonic and both Alexander Siddiq and Andrew Robinson have supported and encouraged this take on their characters relationship.
Garak would be instrumental during the Dominion War helping Starfleet on numerous missions, as well as the controversial assassination of Senator Vreenak a move he framed the Dominion for, thus bringing Romulus into the war on the side of the Federation (Sisko could live with it).
Andrew has kept the love of his character alive over the years, writing a well loved novel about Garak (A Stitch In Time) which he recently recorded an audiobook for. And also reprised his role of Garak onscreen in Star Trek: Lower Decks, playing an alternate universe Garak who is in a relationship with a hologram of Bashir.
