Help This Graduate Study: LGBTQIA Fiction Community Survey
Do you like to read? Do you like to read books featuring women who happen to like other women? Do you enjoy good karma points from the universe? If so, help this CMU grad student with her LGBTQIA Readers Survey! It takes less than 10 minutes and answers are anonymous. The survey can be found here. Must be 18+ to participate: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ReaderSurveyCMU More info from the graduate student running the study: âIâm Hope, a graduate student in the Master of Science in Administration program at Central Michigan University. My capstone thesis study, underway now, examines the LGBTQIA fiction market and its readers -- especially for women who love women. The data collected will provide useful information and help us understand how authors and publishers can make better LGBTQIA content for readers. My target participation goal is approximately 400, and I'm hoping to capture a healthy portion of responses from outside the USA. The results of this study are only useful if it accurately captures the needs and interests of the LGBTQIA fiction community. Iâm happy to share a summary of the study once itâs finished -- please contact me at my academic email for more information or questions: [email protected]. Thanks for your time and support of this project! Your voices and your stories matter!

Think subtly. More subtly than that. If there's a book and a woman in the same shot, you might be looking at a lesbian.

You may have heard about YouTubeâs new YouTube Partner Program and its ever-changing standards for âfamily-friendlyâ content. Weâve decided to begin a weekly column featuring YouTube channels and series whose queer content and audience is most at risk for censorship (and demonetization).
The best way to ensure queer content continues to be made is to support queer content creators and their projects, which is exactly what we intend to do with our Queekly Signal Boost.
Our first signal boost goes to the YouTube channel Girl Ship TV. Â Girl Ship TV was created by BuzzFeed alumna, Amanda Holland (@AwkwardHolland). Holland discussed with fans during a livestream of Hayley Kiyokoâs hottest videos that she âalways wanted to make and do a queer-specific channel at Buzzfeed,â as a way to protect queer content from some of BuzzFeedâs more homophobic commenters. Â Because BuzzFeed preferred to âintegrate [queer] content into regular videos,â Holland took it upon herself to create a channel where she could filter out the comments from viewers who treated queer content at BuzzFeed with animosity. Check out our review of her channel here:Â https://queeks.com/queekly-signal-boost-girl-ship-tv/
If Hayley Kiyokoâs new single, âCurious,â is any indication of whatâs to come from her first full-length album, Expectations, then 2018 is bound to be the year that Kiyoko and her unapologetically queer brand is catapulted firmly into mainstream music. Adapting Industryâs Formula for a Queer Audience The music industry has built a culture of âŠ
âLike her other music videos, Kiyoko directed âCuriousâ as if she were filming a movie. Â It was cast, set, and directed as if every second of film was priceless and every beat of music had meaning. Â And more so than any of her other videos, âCuriousâ depicts Kiyokoâs understanding that when two women want each other, moments between them can become a game.â
We ship it! Marvel brought us a queer (super)power couple this week. Check out why we love how the showrunners featured this relationship compared to other LGBT storylines: https://queeks.com/we-ship-it-marvels-runaways-queer-super-power-couple/ Â
âAlthough it may seem the universe finds some strange purpose in interrupting the trajectory of successful queer spaces on the cusp of a content renaissance, the queer community is resilient, if not resourceful. As long as there are those who would seek to rid themselves of the few spaces queer people inhabit, there are far more of us still who strive to ensure our community has all the space we need to connect, grow, and flourish.â Queeks celebrates queer geeks -- come hang out! https://queeks.comÂ
