the real reason janka should never be allowed to get together is because they're both SUCH assholes. like it's fine when they're fighting and all that energy is directed towards each other but if they ever have a singular moment of getting along they are automatically becoming the meanest duo in the room. zanka "gotta say it's pretty cool, all big and scary... hard to believe it's yours" nijiku and jabber "worn out foul mouthed butthurt ratchety shortstack sphereite" wonger teaming up is possibly the worst option available. for rudo. like he should really run.
Think back to Abyss Transpo. Back in the very first chapters. Think back to Baek Saheon smashing someone's eye out and then leaving.
And remember how he mocked the people on the train. How he laughed and tainted them.
I have always been very perplexed on this scene. Not because its out of character or anything but because it doesn't make sense. Saheon is someone who has some awareness on ghost stories being from a supernatural village. He knows this is a deadly situation. And yes he's "safe" but also not really??? So why is the guy whose main priority is his own survival, sticking around to mock these randos?
Well I finally figured it out! And its thanks to a scene in Ch404!
Baek Saheon is angry. He is angry because someone he deeply cares about is now in a very very bad situation. And he is angry at the guy he cares about.
I believe what Baek Saheon doing here and in Abyss Transpo is defending himself. More specifically, he is attacking those who have or will hurt him.
Let's go back to Abyss Transpo. Why would a guy whose main priority is his own survival stick around to mock some random people? I think its to defend himself from feeling guilty. By this point in the story Baek Saheon was not a bad person. Violence was not his first instinct and he had seemingly normal morals. He only resorted to violence when he saw a threat to his survival. And he even made a point to confirm who it was he needed to attack.
I think Saheon still cared for human lives back here. So he attacked them. He attacked them to protect himself from feeling guilty. After all if he convinces himself that this THEIR fault because they're morons then he'll be fine! Their deaths won't be on him at all.
You can see this behavior constantly in Saheon. How whenever he does something that could be considered bad he always defends himself with "Well technically I didn't kill them." And hes technically right. He just pushed them in the way of smth that would definitly kill them! So technically he's free of guilt!
Thats what he does. Protects himself from guilt. And to these people in Abyss Transpo who could hurt him because of the guilt he would feel at leaving them to die, he mocks. He attacks.
And back to Ch404. Where its a bit of a different scenario but really the same one. Except instead of Saheon protecting himself against someone who could hurt him. He's trying to protect himself against someone who already hurt him.
Kim Soleum.
Someone he deeply cares about is in danger. They're in a fairly horrible situation. He feels guilt, grief, and hurt. He is hurt by Kim Soleums suffering. Because he cares for him.
So what does Saheon do? Well he protects himself (unsucessfully) and attacks the person who hurt him! And who was that? Kim Soleum!
Because it seems like Saheon has not cared for many people in his life aside from himself. In fact its likely he hasn't cared for anyone in a very very long time. But he has ended up caring for Soleum. And he doesn't quite know what to do about that. Because caring for Soleum has ultimately hurt him. And thats not supposed to happen.
He protects himself. He shifts the blame completly to someone else despite it being entirely on him (Like when he kills someone by throwing them into danger. Shifts the blame to the danger and puts no responsibility on himself). He blames Soleum for dragging him into this. And technically he's right. Soleum "dragged him in" by just existing. Because Soleum is someone he cares for.
And then he gets upset at Soleum sharing this information. The horrible situation Soleum is in. And Saheon asks why he would say this after he already dragged him in. He's attacking Soleum for being in this situation. Because Soleum being in danger hurts Saheon. And Saheons now mad at Soleum for hurting him.
In some warped way he's saying he wishes Soleum wasn't in danger. That this wasn't happening. That Soleum could just be okay.
And unrelated to the analysis but I found the moment after this where Saheon openly tells Soleum what he wants and tells him not to give up ❤️
Overall very interesting behavior! And there are more instances of this happening (where Saheon attacks those who hurt him) such as end of Part 2 and yada yada.
Saheon attacks those who hurt and protects himself from feeling guilt by putting responsibility on someone else.
Y'know what? One thing I very much enjoy about the GSGW fandom shipping is that damn near everyone is a multishipper because that boy just has chemistry with everyone he meets.
