I write differently from what I speak, I speak differently from what I think, I think differently from the way I ought to think, and so it all proceeds into deepest darkness.

The Pencilsword (#10): On A Plate by Toby Morris From: http://thewireless.co.nz/articles/the-pencilsword-on-a-plate
Sonnet XVII
by Pablo Neruda. In 100 Love Sonnets. 1960.
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz, or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off. I love you as certain dark things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul. I love you as the plant that never blooms but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers; thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance, risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body. I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way than this: where I does not exist, nor you, so close that your hand on my chest is my hand, so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to find peace with exactly who and what I am. To take pride in my thoughts, my appearance, my talents, my flaws and to stop this incessant worrying that I can’t be loved as I am.
Anaïs Nin
Murakami, H. (2002). Kafka on the Shore.
Synopsis:
Kafka on the Shore, a tour de force of metaphysical reality, is powered by two remarkable characters: a teenage boy, Kafka Tamura, who runs away from home either to escape a gruesome oedipal prophecy or to search for his long-missing mother and sister; and an aging simpleton called Nakata, who never recovered from a wartime affliction and now is drawn toward Kafka for reasons that, like the most basic activities of daily life, he cannot fathom. Their odyssey, as mysterious to them as it is to us, is enriched throughout by vivid accomplices and mesmerizing events. Cats and people carry on conversations, a ghostlike pimp employs a Hegel-quoting prostitute, a forest harbors soldiers apparently unaged since World War II, and rainstorms of fish (and worse) fall from the sky. There is a brutal murder, with the identity of both victim and perpetrator a riddle - yet this, along with everything else, is eventually answered, just as the entwined destinies of Kafka and Nakata are gradually revealed, with one escaping his fate entirely and the other given a fresh start on his own.

ARTIST PROFILE
Russ Ligtas
Russ is a visual artist exploring alternative possibilities in performance. A transplant from Cebu, he has continued his intermedia art practice in Manila since 2013. During performances, Russ oftentimes deploys his various alter egos—aspects of his psyche with specialized roles to confront and process specific realities. He situates his alte egos in various conditions, allowing them to exist and evolve as their own distinct personalities, while simultaneously mapping out their histories, and when elucidated, their narratives are transcribed into performances that communicate their origins, preoccupations, and ultimately their fates. At present, Russ contains seven alter egos, however he also performs as personages other than these that have yet to be named or identified.

Two Fishermen
by Lang Leav. In Lullabies. 2014.
A girl came upon a fisherman at the water’s edge and watched as he cast his net into the wide, open sea. On closer inspection, she noticed how all the knots that usually held a net together were unknotted.
“Why do you throw a knotless net into the water?” she asked.
“I want to catch all fish in the ocean,” he replied. “But there are none I wish to keep.”
She walked on a little further and came across another fisherman, holding a simple line. She studied him quietly as he reeled his catch in, before returning it to the water. After he repeated this several times, the girl asked him, “Why do you catch them just to throw them back?”
“There is only one fish I want to catch and so, no other holds my interest.”
