im just wondering why you hate jeanmarco so much? im not judging or saying you should like it or anything like that, im just genuinely curious! c:
no need to apologize, im glad someone actually asked this since i can… finally have an excuse to put this into words other than me typing incoherently on skype
1.) RIP MARCO BODT, REST IN PIECES marco was literally a plot device set forth for jean’s development, there is nothing further to be thought about this. he was planned to die basically but the entire fandom treats him as some sort of freckled martyr that took up half the show instead of MAYBE FOUR MINUTES. AT MOST. WITH TWO OF THEM BEING HIM DEAD. he is overexaggerated and beaten to death with the fans’ stick. i once saw someone comment that the jeanmarco tag was the saddest tag in the fandom which is a chuckle and a half considering oh historia’s childhood story was JUST uploaded after her only friend had to basically disappear…. and marco did nothing but basically insult jean to motivate him… yes that’s truly tragic. marco called jean a weenie before getting his head bitten off. i suppose about 50% of why i hate jeanmarco is how the fandom treats marco. just let this poor bastard rest in peace he is dead and let him stay dead. he had NO IMPACT ON THE PLOT WHATSOEVER in the long run. and do NOT give me some bullshit “well uhhh in the anime he” THE ANIME DID LOTS OF THINGS, NOT ALL OF THEM GOOD
2.) another thing that bites my ass is JEAN. POOr jean is just given the absolute short end of the stick. all people do is seem to call him “the absolute gayest” “gay” “completely homosexual”… not only is that completely disrespectful and borderline fetishizing of a good platonic partnership, but… these people seem to forget about jean’s canon crush on mikasa… like completely. im saying this from a completely objective point too!! that was such a big deal!! everyone makes a stink about the whole wiping-humanity’s-trust-off scene but it seems like they completely forget the events that led up to that!! these people are still stuck in their yaoi goggles tbh… and the way they characterize jean liking marco is… horrible. absolutely bad. yes i am sure there are decent fanfic authors but because i do not actively seek out jeanmarco i can not say for sure who ARE the good authors but whenever i trek through the tags, i just see the same damn rehashed plot: gay jean, poor gay jean, falls in love with his best friend, they probably get married, and “marco is so fucking beautiful, his fucking freckled ass and face, so fucking perfect” like jean is some suave smooth dude (???!?!?) wooing marco even though jean is the one smitted, and then somehow marco dies. but marco was so fucking beautiful, fuckin perfect blah blah yackety yack barf
3.) i suppose it all boils down to the fact that all jeanmarco i have every seen is grossly mischaracterized / poorly written / overexaggerated / FUCKING EVERYWHERE. I LITERALLY CAN NOT GO A DAY W/O JEANMARCO being in my tags or dash. it makes me want to tear my hair out because ALL THE THINGS I SEE ABOVE LISTED ARE WHAT I SEE AND IT’S SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! maybe if ppol actually drew jean being a self-centered bumbling ASSHOLE and marco picking his nose while he calls jean a weenie then MAYBE i would be more okay with this but i never do, i have see SO MANY jeanmarcos that are some pisspoor yaoi trope / pseudo-depressing sob story “my boyfriend marco died and i died inside” bullshit / “LOLOLOL JEAN IS SOOOOOG AY, so g AY” “GAYYYY” shut the hell up
4.) leads me to another point of how they treat marco’s death as some romantic… point… in their relationship… which is fucking gross and, as weird as it sounds, downright disrespectful. one main focal point in snk is the question of whether dying for an unknown cause is glorious or horrifying, and people skew marco getting bitten in half as jean’s self actualization of being gay… “wow i never got to tell him i loved him” eat my ass lol
tl;dr of the story is: bad characterization overall, annoying ass fans, bad fanworks constitute the majority of what i’ve seen, being unholy EVERYWHERE. i haven’t seen it this bad since fucken sasunaru/itasasu back in middle school.
