Critically Touched, in their review of Not Fade Away (Angel series finale), pointed out a thing in Wesley’s dialogue that just kills me to this day.

Wesley in Angel’s season 1 finale: The fact that his death is prophesied - which isn’t good news - doesn’t concern me nearly as much as the way he took that news. Angel’s cut off. Death doesn’t bother him because there’s nothing in life he wants. It’s our desires that make us human.

And in the series finale:

Wesley: There is no perfect day for me, Illyria. There is no sunset or painting or finely-aged scotch that’s going to sum up my life and make tonight any… There is nothing that I want.
