brushing up on numerology for interpreting pip cards; no wonder i find the sixes of each suit so comforting and familiar -- my own name is a 6 in numerology āŗļø a.k.a. the 'caretaker' number, 6 is focused on family, sacrifice, caring and healing. all the rider-waite scenes portray some aspect of that energy of protection, generosity, familial love and community!
The Tarot of the Hidden Realm came today, and I am already so, so in love with it. There's something about these cards that draw me right into their world. It's a great deck for intuitive readings, meant for conversations with the cards and the thoughts&emotions they invoke in you; the imagery is up close and personal, with symbolism present but taking second place compared to the characters, who are so expressive and absolutely humming with life. I also find the companion book beautifully written, with lovely descriptions of the scenes in the cards and a viewpoint on tarot that resonates with me. I want to check out more decks with Barbara Moore's writing now!
The Ten of Swords has been my companion in readings for others recently. I particularly love it in this deck (the Herbal Tarot) which is otherwise a deck I've had a harder time connecting with. But I gained a new perspective today; a sense that this deck works by gently pulling painful or shameful experiences and thoughts into the open and letting them be acknowledged and heard. Sometimes that's all someone really needs at the time of a reading -- a safe space to talk about what they're feeling, and the relief of unbottling those emotions. It's a melancholy deck, one less in-tune with my natural state of being, but it's teaching me a new compassion ... and sometimes, we just need something melancholy to relate with when we're feeling the same. As for the Ten of Swords itself; I feel like I can step into this card and feel the chill of winter around me and see the frost stretching over the ground -- we need the dormant season of winter in order to grow anew in the spring, and weathering the harsh and scarce months is part of the cycle. There's pain here, and it's given everything we have -- including our blood! -- in the struggle, but that struggle nourishes the ground for life to grow again. The season is ending, and spring is near, it is over, and you will begin again.
Decks galore!
Recently had the itch to look around at tarot decks again (my mom started looking for a deck, and how could I resist joining in!) and ended up with a few new beauties on my wishlist. Here are some Iāve been eyeing the most! The Linestrider Tarot ā absolutely gorgeous, has been on my list for a while (the Queen of Wands is just lovely). My only concern is that the cardstock seems to be poor quality since it started being mass produced by Llewellyn and Iāve been holding off, hoping the feedback will result in an improvement. Tarot of Trees ā I love this deck so much. Who knew trees could feel so emotive? Itās just beautiful, and I love the vivid colors of the different suits. Everyday Witch Tarot ā this is a newly released deck and I want it so badly, goodness. I love the art style and the youthful, fun feel of it -- and the fact that thereās cat familiars in nearly every card. I watched a review on youtube by Neptuneās Daughter (here) that quickly went through the cards and ahhh. Amazing. I love them. The artist did blog posts about creating the deck, as well! After Tarot ā this deck isnāt out on Amazon yet and I havenāt gotten a good look at it, but Iām fascinated by the concept, which explores what the cards would look like in the moments after the scene we get on traditional Rider-Waite decks. Thatās such a cool idea. Dream Enchantress Tarot ā just saw Daily Tarot Girlās reading (here) using these cards and was really taken by the art, but I havenāt really gotten a good look at the full deck yet. The art style was enough to get me interested, though! &two Oracle decks: Bach Flower Inspirational Cards ā these have Art Nouveau artwork, which is an art style Iāve always really adored, combined with fragrances. A perfect combination. I have no idea how theyād read, but Iād honestly love them just for the artwork if nothing else. Druid Plant Oracle ā immediately connected with this oracle deck in an intense way, and was like, āah, ah this is the deck for meā ā¦.and then found out itās out of print. So itās more of a wishful dream of a deck to own (so expensive!), but worth mentioning because that artwork is amazing!Ā
One of my favorite things about collecting Tarot decks is getting to know each new deck, because thereās nuances to each that color the readings and give them a certain personality and flair. Even imagery drawing from the same symbolism can take on a very different spin depending on the deck!Ā My Mucha deck loves to get spiritual and go deep with each reading, itās very intuitive and asks you to look within yourself and reflect on your journey through life. If youāre looking for a light and fun read, the Mucha deck might give you more than you were expecting. The Victorian Fairy Tarot, on the other hand, is so gentle and warm and full of life -- itās often concerned with our day to day experiences and values the earthy parts of life, wanting you the most of them! The Romantic Tarot is perfectly suited to its name -- this deck always seem to work best with readings about romance and relationships. Often Iāll draw a blank if trying to read with it in other contexts, but as soon as Iām looking at interpersonal dynamics and the emotions involved, the Romantic Tarot has a lot to say (and in a cheeky way, too!). And the Waite-Smith deck, true to its old and traditional roots, reads in this amazingly clear and concise way -- direct and bold, no time for nonsense, and you can almost feel the weight of history and years of collective tarot knowledge behind it.Ā decks pictured: Mucha Tarot - Victorian Fairy Tarot - Romantic Tarot - Rider-Waite-SmithĀ
