Guys, I got a kitten recently. It’s like having a kid, or at least what I imagine having one would be like: always eating, pooping, making tiny noises, and earning my undying love and loyalty. His name is Oberon, he was a stray brought in to our hospital at 9 weeks, and he has already made it into my sketchbook multiple times. He is simply amazing.

I'm posting a link (above) to the lovely people of moo.com, where I get my business cards, because I just ordered my third pack from them (weee! new cards!!). I order only from them because they make extremely high-quality, gorgeous, custom cards (and post cards, and STICKERS of your art or logo) that you have just about full control over. My favorite part is that you can upload multiple designs and get some variety in your pack, so if you're talking to a client who wants a painting - boom, there's your card with one of your paintings. Sia is killing it lately. So much true talent, such an incredible voice.
There's something about the dark I've always loved. It's been a comfort and a curiosity. I was in the backseat during a road-trip, winding up through Pennsylvania last week. It was 11:30 or so at night. I knew I was almost home because I could lean my head back and stare up through the rear hatch window and see every.single.star and fine traces of the Milky Way. The light pollution had faded as we escaped from large city to small town to occasional house. I was moving down dark roads, through the woods, traveling through time to summer nights spent in the field, acquainting myself with Ursa Minor, Draco, and Corona Borealis. I placed them on the ceiling of my room so I wouldn't forget where they were, glow-in-the-dark reminders of my very northern friends. The first of them to appear to me that night was my old familiar, the Big Bear, Ursa Major -- the end star guiding me to Polaris and home.

One of my favorite scenes from La Roman de Renard, directed by Wladyslaw and Irene Starewicz, 1930. La Roman de Renard (Tale of the Fox) is one of the earliest stop-motion animated films, and it greatly impressed me. Wladyslaw Starewicz's career went from early experiments, filming insects and manipulating their little bodies stop-motion style once the hot lights killed them, to creating this incredible remake of a French fable. La Roman de Renard reportedly took 10 years to plan, and 18 months to shoot. What gets me is that he paid such close attention to detail (the inhale and exhale of the Lion Queen's chest as she fawns over the serenading Cat, the movement of each animal's eyes, the background behaviors of the lesser characters) and made it all look surprisingly natural. A smile crept onto my face at the beginning of this film and stayed there throughout. Many thanks to the Boo for finding this and knowing I'd love it. Runaway - Del Shannon The kind of music I used to listen to while swimming in the river when the weather warmed up. My Dad would hook up the outdoor speakers and blast everything from the 50s to 70s while I putzed around singing Simon & Garunkel, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, and The Everly Brothers.
