*spoilers*
Everything that Natasha and Yelena suffered through happens because theyâre women. The Red Room doesnât just abduct any children, they abduct little girls. The movie does a great job of showing how men like Dreykov do not see women as people and how simply being born a girl puts you in danger. Natasha was just a normal girl, her mother didnât even abandon her like she believed. But because she was a girl, she caught the attention of Dreykov, and as he said, âthe most expendable resource in the world is little girlsâ

tua headcanons (hargreeves at hogwarts):
they get their letters one sunny day in july. at first, they all think itâs a joke: some elaborate hoax that one of their fans have createdâvanya and allison donât even bother opening theirs; just toss them straight into the bin after diego finishes reading his out loud (heâs been doing a lot of that lately, the reading, but heyâif itâll help with his stutter, then theyâre all ears for anything he wants to say)
three weeks after that, two more owls deliver fresh acceptance letters to Ms. Allison Hargreeves and Ms. Vanya Hargreeves, and allison finally starts to reconsider her opinion when she realizes theyâd dropped them straight into the fireplace and the parchment isnât even the tiniest bit singed when she fishes it out
reggie harumphs and complains about the whole thing, says itâll take away from their superhero training, but even he folds when professor mcgonagall walks through the door and stares at him with the coldest glare she can muster (âhow dare you treat these children this way? they are not show ponies for you to train and display whenever you wish! you should be ashamed of yourself!â)
she takes all of them to diagon alley when it becomes clear that their beloved father isnât going to lift a single finger to help, and pays for every single thingâbooks, robes, wands, petsâout of her own pocket. what can she say? sheâs always had a soft spot for orphans anyway
imagine them, so young and all of eleven-years-old, wandering down that crooked street for the first time, taking in every fascinating thing the wizarding world has to offer with wide eyes
luther and five, ever the practical ones, get owls for a school pet, luther talking her ear off about how heâll use zeus to send a letter home every day when the school year finally starts. minerva doesnât have the heart to tell him that reggie will probably throw away every single one, unopened and unread
the rest of the children settle for cats, especially the funny little one who claims he can commune with the dead. she catches him thumbing through a thick book of magical plants when they get to flourish and blotts, and without a second thought, she buys it for him and slips it into his bag when he isnât looking. she knows sheâs spoiling them, but minerva just doesnât have it in herself to deny those haunted green eyes anything
by the time school starts, minerva has traded about a dozen letters with the youngest girl, who somehow thinks she will be sent back for even breathing the wrong way. when she is sorted into her house, minerva stands up and applauds, throwing all caution to the winds, even as vanya hargreeves smiles at her shyly from gryffindor table
one day in class, diego gets in trouble for punching a fellow slytherinâs nose. when she finds out it was because they were making fun of his stutter, she takes it upon herself to tutor him after class, feeding him so many ginger biscuits that long after he graduates, minerva mcgonagall is still the first thing he thinks of when he smells ginger
the fifth child, five (âoh, what an odd name for a little boyâ), has a natural talent for potions, and despite the fact that he isnât in her house, she gets in a good word for him with snape, who simply gives her a funny little twist of his mouth. the next time she sees him, heâs nose-deep in a book thatâs way above first-year level, fingers smudged with ink as he feverishly takes down notes. itâs the happiest sheâs seen him since they left that infernal academy
luther, as it turns out, is absurdly gifted at quidditch, and despite all of them being in different houses, it warms her heart to see his siblings sitting together during games in the gryffindor stands, cheering his name as he zooms past them with a huge grin
allison hasnât found her specialty just yet, but sheâs the quickest at learning spells and the house elves sing her praises, mostly because sheâs started putting up reminders in the ravenclaw common room to treat them nicely. it amuses minerva: seeing this little slip of a thing fight so fiercely for something she has only recently come into contact with. without realizing it, she starts putting aside auror training pamphlets for the child. mad-eye could do with another apprentice someday anyway
just ⌠allison taking it upon herself to learn everything without using a single rumor. imagine her finding utmost joy in doing things the hard way and finally feeling like sheâs earned it, and eventually sheâs neck-and-neck with five for the topmost spot in class, all the way until they graduate
sheâd guessed right when she inferred that the sixth child, ben, would be the best at herbology and care of magical creatures. heâs gentleâtoo gentle, in factâbut his eyes hold the same steel as his siblings, and minerva knows it stems from the fact that he was raised to be a soldier. it makes her worry for him nonstop, until one day, she catches him playing with the giant squid, tentacles against tentacles, and it makes her laugh so much that pomona has to thump her on the back afterwards
in their seventh year, the DADA professor introduces them to dementors and patronus charms. vanya is a natural, of course, and after, minerva catches her giving free lessons to those who need it, claiming that she knows what itâs like to be worthless and feel like every single good thing in the world has been sucked out of you. enraged, she sends three howlers to reginald hargreeves, and enchants them extra specially so theyâll follow him around wherever he goes for a week
for the next seven years, she repeatedly catches klaus out of bed after hours, chatting with the ghosts that everyone else seem to ignore. myrtle in particular has latched onto him like a leech, but klaus doesnât seem to mind
once, she reprimands him for smoking weed in the hallways, but when he tells her the drugs ease the pain of hearing so many dead things in a school as old as hogwarts, minerva never bothers him again. itâs tough, she supposes, for a child as young as him to have such a power, and even if she doesnât approve of his methods, she truly wants to help
all seven of them are popular to a degree, but none more so than little vanya, whose powers are apparently far greater than that of her siblings. she shies away from the attention, more content to hide away in her dormitory with her violin or in the library with madam pince, who calls her a complete sweetheart
once, a sixth-year bully makes the mistake of calling the girls âmudbloodsâ while ben is around. the boy whips him so far out into the middle of the black lake with his tentacles that even the giant squid has a hard time finding him and depositing him back to shore. when she brings him to flitwickâs office for reprimanding, the charms master simply says, âgood for you, mr. hargreeves. itâs about time you stopped being so timid. youâre in my house after allâ and doesnât even give ben detention
when she sees that luther is having a hard time in transfiguration, she starts tutoring him with diego, and although heâs awkward at first, so used to being the best at everything (âthereâs no such thing as numbers in my class, mr. hargreeves. now, turn that button into a pebble so we can all go homeâ), but eventually all his struggles pay off, and the bright grin he flashes her when his spells finally start working properly is worth every sleepless night sheâs spent wondering how to make learning easier for him
in second year, when vanya decides sheâll be staying for christmas this time around, the others decide to stay as well. for the next few years, it becomes something like a tradition: minerva grading papers well past midnight with the hargreeves sprawled in various positions around her office, either working through holiday homework or just wanting to keep each other company
long after they leave, students are still talking about how luther and diego are the finest quidditch players gryffindor and slytherin house have ever seen
vanya still writes her letters, detailing her new life as a concert violinist with free tickets to muggle theaters when she can spare them. minerva goes to each one and afterwards, they apparate to the three broomsticks, talking happily over butterbeer about her siblings and music and her new girlfriend, sissy
just minerva mcgonagall being the second parental figure all seven of them have always needed, secretly fretting when any of them get sick or injured, signing all their permission slips to hogsmeade herself (âfuck the rules,â she tells albus with a cold glare, and the headmaster simply gives her an approving smile), writing recommendation letters to every person of importance that she knows so the hargreeves never have to ask a single favor of their wretched father ever again
also!! i just want to add these hcs by @paperpocalypse because theyâre just too lovely to be hidden in the notes:
luther would totally be a beater and soon, heâs infamous for knocking bludgers so far away it takes minutes for them to return. diego is a fantastic chaser with incredible aim and breaks the record for goals scored by one person. after they both become captains in their fourth year, gryffindor/slytherin games become even more popular
prof sprout and ben and five each working with klaus on herbal remedies/potions for his nightmares
(klaus has definitely experimented with most of the plants in the greenhouse)
somehow always entering the room of requirement when another siblingâs already there (vanya often goes there to practice and the acoustics are a m a z i n g)
allison absolutely eating snobby blood purists for lunch
all of them going to hogsmeade together and enjoying the freedom of walking around for the sole purpose of having fun
