Hey everyone! Before there’s mass panic over this, people can now see what posts you’re commented on when viewing your blog. You can toggle this to private but I haven’t seen a specific switch so it may be based on blog visibility? Either way keep in mind posts are public and so is anything you say.

Basically it just shows posts you commented on and what you commented with.

Saying this before anyone starts making angry posts to get attention and cause panic.

Update! You can toggle these by the replies tab in settings per account! It’s listed as ‘share comments’.

If you’re looking for artists to commission just look in the commission tag for better luck! Unfortunately making posts about looking for artists to commission art from generally leads to instant DMs from accounts tracing Gen-AI. If you’re lucky you’ll get comments from real artists but the scammers may do that as well! Don’t pay people who barge into your DMs and pressure you to commission them on the spot. It’s worse when they try this on actual artists who don’t do that.

so the "MrBeast voucher reward thing" scam made it to Discord at some point (not sure when, today was my first time seeing any case of it specifically on Discord)

learned about this from someone in a server I own DMing me and showing me screenshots of a friend of theirs sending them the scam after getting their account hacked (thankfully there is good news for that case though, which is that their friend managed to regain access to their account)

Thank goodness your friend got your account back!

Wouldn't be surprised if that MrBeast Voucher reward scam enters tumblr later on, so keep an eye out

Always remember: anyone who contacts you or suddenly posts in a server (especially spamming channels) sharing a link to something 'free' such as nitro or gift cards, or even if they randomly decide to send you a invite link to a discord you are unfamiliar with likely means they're hacked.

This actually just happened the other day to me with a friend I hadn't spoken to in YEARS:

They sent it to their entire friends list as well. Upon joining it they likely would have tried to get me to 'verify' my account by clicking some prompts via a bot which- if you didn't now- CAN lead to your login tokens and such being stolen!

If you need a good place to learn about Discord scams and such, NTTS (No Text To Speech) is a good youtube channel for that. :) He covers a wide variety of topics too!

I'm sharing this video today because I had reblogged a post by @ai-art-thieves two weeks ago and the comment I had left on that post where my own friend had gotten hacked and shared a link was likely from this same community of scammers!

Please stay safe on Discord (for those who use it), and remember that anyone, even your friends, who suddenly starts sending you random links to websites or groups, likely has malicious intentions in mind.

And if a website or app tells you to 'verify' your account by clicking a button, entering your information or going to a random website off of where you're currently at right now? That's likely 100% a scam too.

Eyy new info dropped on the Avoiding Scammers - tumblr help page!

Remember: Nobody paid money to sign up and join [tumblr], so you will never have to pay money to 'verify' or 'fix' your account.

Anyone telling you to go to a website that is not 'tumblr dot com' aka where you are now, and any website asking for money and/or personal information or prompts you to log in with your tumblr info, is 100% going to scam you.

Stop and think before you click that link.

Posted this yesterday as well but I’ll post it again this morning. I was able to get groceries (but had to get Mawmaw’s help too so I have to help with her next car payment next month)

You do not need a third-party service to access ao3 to download fics. Your device has a browser built in already. It’s free and doesn’t require a subscription service to work. There isn’t an official ao3 app besides just turning the site into an icon on your phone screen. Don’t give your login credentials to random apps that claim to be an ao3 reader. Just use the website.

You also shouldn’t defend a third party service that pretends to be an ao3 app and charges you just to read fics offline.

Just so you all know I made this post because someone was arguing with me when I explained ‘app acting as browser for ao3 use ’ is a third party service as there’s no official app outside of you turning the site into one for your phone menu. You don’t need open-source codes for this.
