Satin Stitching Overview

After finishing up a recent commission, I thought it would be a neat idea to make a short overview on how I did the satin stitching for my Djeeta commission. I wouldn’t call this a full tutorial, but a overview for satin stitching if you want to do something in a similar way.

Here it is! The pattern of my Deku mask. Hope this pattern is helpful! This is my first time making a digital pattern and I hope it’s at least helpful.

How to use the pattern:

-Print out the pattern

-Trace pieces onto EVA foam

-Sand and dremel the pieces to get your desired shape

-Cut out shallow channels along the black dashed lines on the back of the EVA foam

-Cut out the 8 holes

-Connect the center top and center bottom using contact cement

-Put contact cement in the channels and bend the foam to make the channels touch (I hope that makes sense)

-Make thin cuts along the vertical lines and use a heat gun to make them expand

-Attach the “flippers” onto the mask using contact cement

From there, you can decide how you want to have the mask have a strap along the back. Also, you can adjust the shape of the mask using a heat gun and bending the mask.

Masquerade mask for glasses wearers

Cheap but effective if you don’t own contacts. I made small hooks that should fall on your glasses if you measure it right. Since it lands on your glasses it shouldn’t scratch you. This only works with really light masks though
