In honor of pride month, and in memory of the victims of the Orlando shooting. We’ve lost many siblings and friends in this tragedy, and my heart goes out to their loved ones.

(I’m still unsure about the details of my identity, but we humans change all the time and we’re always discovering new things about ourselves. And that’s beautiful. For now, I chose to use the aromantic, demiboy, and pansexual flags to represent myself. I also feel strongly connected to the transgender flag.)

There are so many talented Asian actresses who could’ve played Motoko. Nobody is stopping you from casting Asians for lead roles about asians!!! And what makes me even more upset is that the director originally wanted Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn from upcoming suicide squad) to play motoko and scarjo as backup. There was literally no consideration to find an Asian woman to play her.

What I am glad about is that they cast kitano as aramaki and section 9 is more diverse. But I still don’t understand how besides kitano, all the other main characters are white?

Idk it breaks my heart because I love the majors character so much and have looked up to her for so long because she’s a badass Asian female protagonist and now I feel like even that has been taken away. I know I will not go and see it in theaters.

I wish media would stop casting Asian people only as props, as nerdy unwanted sidekicks, as fetishized and sexual fantasies, as masters of the Mystics and the exotic orient and other blah blah stereotypical bull shit. I wish people could understand how important representation is.

Also the Vikings were known to be complete dandies. They sought bright colors, jewelry, imported Persian silks. Ribbons. Little mirrors sewn onto clothing, in Sweden. The men had long hair that was scandalous to Christians, and they carried combs and earspoons and such things with them. I recall seeing documents where the eastern Norse were big on baths and one of their demands in a particular negotiation was “we get to have baths drawn for us whenever we want”, which was often. They used soap with agents designed to bleach hair to try to make themselves blonder. SRSLY. Look at this stuff. I’m sorry longhaired prettyboy viking men in gaudy clothing and jewelry, bleaching and combing their hair, doesn’t match with your Conan-the-Barbarian manlyman aesthetic. …or the fact that a significant portion of the Norse were traders, fishermen, farmers, and herders, and weren’t raiding, pillaging warriors or hired Byzantine thug-bodyguards.
