honestly "oracle that nobody believes" is such a solid trope. imagine trying to convince anybody in 2006 what the next two decades was gonna look like
If you were able to vote in 2016 this is actually what it felt like trying to tell your family about why donald trump would not make a good president
yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
It was always just an empty gesture, but it mattered.
It meant our money mattered. It meant we had social capital.
It meant that being on our side seemed like "being on the right side of history" and that's where companies wanted to be.
It should be alarming to everyone that things have shifted this quickly.
have you guys heard about the greenland shark. some crazy shit happening there.
they are sexually mature at ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS OLD.
their (live!) young gestate for. wait for it. eight to eighteen (??) YEARS. can have up to 10 at a time. good grief.
longest lifespan of any vertebrate, up to five hundred years
toxic flesh
has giant eyes but is usually blind because of a weird little crustacean that's evolved to live on and eat their eyes. this doesn't seem to bother them much.
lives in deep cold water and has the lowest swim speed and tail-beat frequency for its size across all fish species. just generally lives life in extreme slow motion
largest genome of any shark
eats everything including moose and polar bears
ma'am you are delightfully strange and I'm privileged to share a planet with you
this post prompted me to refresh my memory on Greenland Shark Facts and this detail about how they feed goes so hard
just vacuuming up their unsuspecting prey. whole !
Good news good news good news! Recent research suggests the eye parasites do NOT blind them!
Dorota Skowronska-Krawczyk sits in her office, eyes fixed on the computer monitor in front of her. "You see it move its eye," says the UC Ir
I <3 you a normal amount Greenland sharks
they just don’t do any classic homophobic children moments like this anymore
There was really no winning that one
Bear religion probably fucking rocks. You're a fucking bear, you're the deadliest thing on earth, once a year an endless supply of salmon just flings itself up the river to gorge on and then you nap for 3 months.
The most delicious food in the world is protected by tiny demons who can defend it from everyone except you. Your natural armor is thick enough that you can just eat the damn hive while they buzz around you. God's chosen animals right there
Regular bears tell stories of angel bears sent by the Bear God, pure white and twice as strong as any normal bear could be, who rule the summit of the Earth and kill all who stand in their path.
And they are right, those bears exist and totally do that. Humans just have fake angels as a cope.
love the idea of bears being the chosen species actually. having a near death experience and glimpsing heaven and realising it's just full of bears, no humans at all, humans not ensouled actually, humans an accidental byproduct of God's plan for bears
Imagine being the gays at a pride event in 2004 living their lives when someone grabs the microphone and announces to the room that Ronald Reagan was pronounced dead. Can you even imagine the hype, the celebration, the pure elation
This is the Pride Month that It will happen. I feel it in my gay bones
i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
A couple of years ago, I tried to get more involved in my local queer community by joining the local pride organization and volunteering to help out with some things there. I even twisted my partner's arm a little to get her to create a new logo for them for free! (It's a good logo, they still use it.) But my partner and I never really felt comfortable and welcome in that space.
I'm not really sure what it was. We attended a handful of events but never actually made friends or felt connected to the community. I also never found the kind of connection into the social justice world that I expected to find there. Where were the other queers who wanted to go to protests? Where were the folks who wanted to talk about issues the way we do here on tumblr? I couldn't find them.
Somehow (it's a long story) I ended up finding my people in the last place I ever thought I would - a church. For someone who has a pretty big helping of religious trauma and who had waffled back and forth between atheism and agnosticism, church was the last place I'd ever thought I'd find myself.
So now I find myself eating cookies with the church ladies on Mondays while we organize mutual aid, and talk about prison reform, climate change, and marching together.
Today, I volunteered to be the point contact between our group and the Pride organization. I messaged the new leader of the group and introduced myself and I'm going to see him on Sunday at the season's first Pride event. I'm hoping that maybe in the service of the work I'm already doing, I'll actually find my place in the local queer community this time.
That actually makes a lot of sense. Church/religion is the closest thing I have ever known to being a trans/queer part of the community.
I dropped both of those things and no longer believe in the metaphysical. I still understand that desperate need for love and connection even when it is with or around something that isn't real.
The moment I accepted myself as bisexual, dropped the trans, queer and christian parts of my life, that's when I became truly whole.
Wow. I've been back on tumblr less than a month and I'm already dealing with this kind of clownishness.
There is no point to this reply other than to demean me, my beliefs, and trans people. Your bio makes that intent extra clear since you use the phrase "trans cult".
Please fuck all the way off.
Transphobia of all kinds is an immediate block.
New logo for my etsy shop. I'm thinking about making stickers.
The thing is nobody at pride is evaluating you to determine if you’re queer enough to be there because they’re too busy thinking “it’s so hot out” and “why is this lemonade 12 dollars?”
remember that pride is still a protest
I dunno, stop apologizing for your art. This includes not posting enough, too much, changing style, inconsistent style, repetition, subject. Its your art its your expression. Have fun.
at least can all we agree that the original gay flag with the magic and sex colours is BEAUTIFUL and it should make a comeback
what’s more iconic than this
What about the final version of the flag by the original creator?
Gilbert Baker added a 9th stripe shortly before his death, with the new stripe representing diversity. He added this stripe in reaction to the 2016 US election. It’s unfortunately not as well known as the 8 and 6 striped versions.
Here’s an image of him sewing together the 9 striped rainbow flag.
Happy pride month everyone
I think the original Gilbert Baker flag colors are so beautiful!
I made some pronoun pins inspired by the GB colors and I was so disappointed when they didn't sell well in my shop.
Oh well. I feel like I should just revisit this color palette and create something new with it.
