My world revolves around you
rewatching JJK season 1 (and rereading some manga sections) before the shibuya arc airs, i’ve noticed all the heartbreaking tiny things gojo does for his students, because he had no one to do that for him.
he could have left yuji at jujutsu tech with megumi, but instead he took them on a fun trip to go get nobara in tokyo, because yuji had just lost his only family and then immediately had 10 more traumatic things happen to him at once. gojo customizes yuji’s uniform to show him that someone is still looking out for him and he’s not alone in this world, even though the entire jujutsu world wants him dead.
and megumi says that gojo does stuff like this all the time, which means he did stuff like this for megumi and tsumiki to make sure they had normal childhood joys as they grew up, because he was always thinking of giving them the things he didn’t have.
he has nobara and yuji do their little mission together, because he knows they’re both new to the city and alone and need a friend. he forces megumi to come along, and gives yuji the room next to megumi’s, bc he wants megumi to have the friend group he lost, and bc megumi is so lonely without his sister, and bc when geto was going through something difficult as a teen, he was isolated and his friends couldn’t help him until it was too late.
and in JKK 0 he does the SAME for yuta - yuta is a special grade like gojo is, and he could easily train him a bit alone and then send him on missions alone like he was at that age, but he makes him learn hand to hand combat and hang out with maki, toge and panda because no kid deserves to go through something that traumatic and scary and be alone.
and then, in shibuya, gojo gets sealed in a box, alone.

fem satosugu.. + theyre teachers
geto looks exactly the same lmao
gege was onto something when he wrote a character that has been taking over people’s bodies for over a thousand years and yet the first (and only) time the body reacted to somebody’s calling was getou with gojou
Marvin in this panel makes me, like, more sick than Marvin usually makes me lmao
One thing that I don't personally acknowledge as much as I probably should is that Ash was not just repeatedly assaulted, as we're all obviously aware, but he was specifically groomed as well. We see this a lot with Dino, of course, with his "You know I love you, sweetheart" and "I raised you" type language toward Ash.
We can also assume that Ash's coach did the same grooming tactics, considering that everyone in the town (including Ash) trusted him, and that he specifically had a position working with children. Ash was an especially vulnerable target even back then -- the only person who cared left for the war.
We see Marvin do the same thing here, even when Ash is seventeen. (Remember that Marvin and Ash had already had a very established relationship three years prior, during Private Opinion when Ash was fourteen. Ash was terrified of Marvin at the time.)
The point that I want to make with this is that I think this is key to understanding Ash's mindset. Yes, he was physically and sexually abused his whole life, which would have an impact on anyone's mindset. In addition to that, he was also mentally and emotionally manipulated his whole life.
Look at Marvin's words here: "I didn't mean to do that." First establishing that he's not at fault for hurting Ash. Then, "You know I didn't mean it?" Leading questions for Ash to agree that it wasn't Marvin's fault.
Then he takes it a step further: "All you gotta do is be good. Otherwise, sometimes you have to get rough." He moves from just pushing the blame away from himself, and places it fully on Ash.
Remember that Ash has heard messages like this his entire life. It's always that he wasn't good enough, that he did something wrong. It's always always always his fault.
I think something worth noting is that at this point, Ash has learned to use this manipulation to his advantage. He's very familiar with it, but he's not buying into it (at least not fully) and is using it against the people trying to hurt him. He's been doing this for some amount of time before the story as well, it's how he got Dino's financial information, and he uses it pretty consistently throughout the story, with the politician, at the mental facility, etc. It makes sense that he wouldn't fully stop believing it, you can't get those thoughts out of your head like that, but he is fighting back. He's in a place where his drive is trying to break free and that's really cool.
sometimes a family can be a grumpy toddler and the weird teenager who adopted him on the street
are you really an ao3 user if you've never read a >50k fanfic that is incredibly fucking good, much much better than any original work out there, with eloquent writing so deep and poetic that you have to pause after every few sentences, process it and scream into a muffled pillow?
bonus if you're supposed to be studying for something or other but decided to read just one more chapter, and finished the whole thing :')
