it’s simple: when I like an adaptation, everyone complaining about changes to the text is a whiny baby who needs to get over themselves and accept that sometimes you have to change the story to enrich the experience/work within the medium. when I don’t like an adaptation, it’s because nobody else understands the core themes of the original work and would be better off just creating a story independent of what they’re trying to adapt.

but i have never in my life seen a post saying to support masculine trans girls and trans women or trans girls and trans women who like traditionally masculine things and its really important to understand that showing support for trans women in any form is just as important as showing support for trans men so please, please reblog this.

One of the more casually insidious forms of exorsexism is the stereotype that nonbinary people take themselves too seriously and can’t take a joke. It normalizes our dehumanization.

I went to a comedy show a while ago that involved a well received bit where this perfectly reasonable, “normal” guy can’t make it through a grocery store because he keeps accidentally offending everyone there, who are inexplicably all some flavor of genderqueer. It was deeply unfunny, not even because of its offensiveness, but because it’s a tired, Facebook boomer-esque, pathetically overplayed joke. You don’t understand the transgenders these days? Wow. How original. But I forced a small laugh anyway, because as a visibly androgynous person sitting near the front I quickly realized I was backed into a corner. Either I play the part of a “good sport” and laugh at my perceived ridiculousness, or I don’t, and seemingly prove him right. Because isn’t that the real problem here? Don’t we know there are droves of potential allies ready and willing to be kind if only we stopped being so unreasonable?

I mean come on, let’s face it, no real person can ACTUALLY be outside of male or female. They’re happy to let us pretend though! Just you know, have some empathy, ok? Give them time. And in the mean time we can all have a good laugh about how funny this all is. It’s cute how we want to be treated like real people. It’s funny.
