tiny, tiny shrimpies are going to hatch soon!
You seeing this?!
Sea Urchins win every creepy staring contest, ever..
@ Sealife Aquarium (Loch Lomond Shores)
Apistogramma cacatuoides fry and parents
For once mom and dad didn’t angrily block the camera to protect their precious babies! I do love how protective and caring they are (until they decided to eat everyone...).
Look at these adorable little garden eels!! (@ Loch Lomond Sea Life Aquarium)
I MUST GO, MY REFLECTION NEEDS ME.
THESE PARENT BIRDS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL LIKE BIRDY DRAG QUEENS WITH FLAWLESS EYELINER AND THE BABY LOOKS LIKE AN UNFINISHED MUPPET AND I’M DEAD.
In case you ever wanted to see a flinching snail! Poor baby!
I got this little betta about 2 months ago. He was labeled as a female and housed with the other girls. For some reason this particular petstore has real trouble labeling plakats correctly, resulting in massive fights in the girl tanks.
He has grown so much since I got him, and his lovely wildtype colors are much more vibrant!
The only surefire way to tell a male from a female betta sometimes is to backlight and look for ovaries, which will be a triangular/cone shaped dark patch that extends into the body and which obviously males don’t have lol but with darker fish it’s definitely harder… I say this because he looks female to me (smaller ventrals than a male usually has, anal fin looks very short, body shape is kind of ambiguous but leaning pudgier/rounder so female, not a very pronounced beard but then, pictures without flaring are hard) but then also, flaring photos are easier to judge male from female but yeah, if this is a male, I can see why the fish store would confuse him, that first picture is a dead ringer for a female.
He’s definitely a male! no eggspot or ovaries, lots of bubble nests, and he flares like crazy at the thermometer (beard and all). He just had dinner in the first pic, but he’s a lot leaner than most females. I usually look at the shape of the fins, since plakats can have pretty small fins compared to long finned bettas (and halfmoon plakats). The pointy anal fin and longer ventral fins, combined with the non-stop flaring in the store strongly suggested that something wasn’t quite right.
I’ve had a dude like this before (same story, labeled as a female, had the same colors and all). Eventually used him to breed, so he was absolutely a male.
But yeah, young plakats can be so deceptive! Don’t add females to your sorority unless you’re 100% sure their are actually ladies.

WHY WON’T YOU SIT STILL?!
THE GREATEST JOKE ADVENTURE TIME HAS EVER WRITTEN
You want some??! Nah, didn’t think so
Dinner time with tiny betta imbellis.
It’s kinda surreal seeing bettas hang out with eachother, they are easily the most relaxed bettas I’ve ever seen.
1 month of marbling, he’s still pretty but damn dude...
Started with a couple of blue spots and now we have this. The white iridescent scales highlight the underlying blue, and it looks kinda cool.
