Hi!!so first of all, I want you to remember that a l o t of people feel like they're kin with a character because they have this really big connection with them and just really really love them. but sometimes it ends up being that they were kin with a character that was dating/friends/family/ect with that first character. so yes you might be kin with both, or you could be one of them and just really really remember good feelings about the other. or, get this, you could be another character entirely from the show that was close to both of them. I think your best bet is to just sit it out and observe what kind of connection you have with them; is it a lovey dovey feeling? old friendship? sisterly bond? I know you might wanna figure this out but please don't rush yourself cause you might read the feelings wrong and misinterpret who you're kin with. sorry if this is confusing!!! just please make sure to thoroughly look at all the possibilities I mentioned!!~ Mod Emory

How can i tell the difference between fictionhearted or synpath? idk which one i am...

fictionhearted: I want to BE that.

Synpath: I want to HUG that.

Synpath: I feel connected to that on an emotional level. I feel a strong sense of empathy for that. #same

Fictionhearted: Someone with a strong emotional or spiritual connection to any fictional character or fictional species, without believing that they are that character or species.

Synpath: Any creature, or fictional character that a person strongly identifies with or feels an empathic bond with.

-hearted is something you feel in your heart like you *should* be.

a synpath is something that you feel a connection with or empathy for, like you’re the same.

Hey, I'm questioning kin and I feel like I am a couple characters, but I can't tell if my memories are real due to memory problems I have. I'm also friends with someone of the same kin, and while I think doubles are fine doubles make them anxious. What should I do?

so i have a friend that’s not okay with doubles and it’s a little difficult on my end cause i get worried that i’ll end up being just another double and get tossed away as a friend but i don’t think fear is a good way of dealing with stuff in your situation. i think you need to tell the friend you are/questioning a kin they have and you’d still like to be friends but don’t wanna lie about it to them because finding out later is always worse. i really hope it works out and you two are still buddies!

and i have memory problems too so i get that part, but usually for me at least, if i remember things that only happened in a tv show, or feel connected to a piece of media that wasn't around when i was younger, it means those are kin memories. i do recommend looking at some art or fanfiction of the things you’re kin with and seeing if you instantly think “i remember that” or “that never happened ew” in response to it, since thats another tell tale sign for me

(it’s a weird language so i’m actually very impressed you did such a good job typing that up since i even get frustrated with english and it’s my only language)

Hi! I am otherkin, but questioning fictionkin. I have some characters that I consider synpaths and just left it at that. However, here comes my question - can you only experience shifts if you're kin with a character, or can you have "synpath shifts" as well? Because I only hear "kin shift" and lately I've been feeling shifts when it comes to this one character I just considered a synpath. So, do "synpath shifts" exist too, or is it more likely that I'm fictionkin with this character? Thank you!

so i’ve never heard someone saying they have a synpath shift, i do think it’s possible to act somewhat like the character you’re synpath with because the definition of it is to relate with a character. but i think that’d be more of a overall and life experience kind of feelings. a kin shift is usually quick and often times a change of personality, at least slightly, so i think maybe looking at your synpaths and thinking about whether they are synpaths or not would be your best bet. kins can defiantly be weaker than others and i think you may have misinterpreted weak kins for synpaths. but that’s just what i think, it really depends on what you feel and how you connect to those characters/animals/ect.

Hi I'm from a culture that focuses heavily on the ocean and sea. I feel like I might have a huge love for oceans and deep seas because of this but I could be oceankin maybe? It's something my friend brought up so idk I don't wanna disrespect otherkin

so first of all, that’s amazing! i think the world doesn’t appreciate the ocean and everything in it as much as it should. and second of all, it’s not in any way disrespectful to say you’re oceankin because of this. lots of this otherkin and fictionkin stuff is just guessing, sometimes more solid than others since it’s based off of memory snip-its and connections we feel. i’m not saying everyone doesn’t know what they’re doing, just the fact that the whole idea of it all is kind of a throw yourself out there at things you connect with strangely or identify as, and hope you’re right about it

of course there’s also the psychological kin aspect of the community, which i think might be what you’d identify as. it means you connect in a way that isn’t really a past life or just spiritual in general. but more of an unexplainable pull to the subject/character/animal/ect. and since you’ve grown up feeling that connection, i think this might be what youd identify as but of course i’m not you and i can’t tell you if you are or arent kin. but feel free to ask anymore questions about kin stuff or whatnot!! i hope this helped!!
