On a side note, this is also more meaningful because I've been accused of using AI on a pride drawing I made (a redraw of a Portuguese man hugging a Pride flag that went viral) and it felt beyond insulting, I don't think I felt more humiliated in my life. They were so sure of their AI detector that they went on accusing even when I told them it was just my way of drawing. They ended up blocking me when I tagged them on a time lapse of the drawing from paper sketch to digital 🙃

I have a lot of beef with AI stuff and I'm hoping AO3 finds a way to ban it. I was thinking of writing them if there's a help line of some kind. AO3 is a treasure trove of art and it's so sad that people want to ruin it like this.

unmarked AI warning for AO3

Hi everyone,

I've come across a case on Ao3 recently that is really frustrating me so I just wanted to shoot this out there. This is an open warning, in case you do not wish to engage with AI-generated content that was not tagged as such.

In the Zoro/Luffy tag, there is currently a very active fanfiction which contains AI generated images alongside text which might be AI generated or not, at this point I don't know.

There originally was no disclaimer about the art being AI and the poster also didn't indicate it to people complimenting the art, instead just thanking them (although they didn't outright claim it was theirs). After being called out, they did add a disclaimer, then felt they were getting too much unfair backlash since they "are an artist but just don't have the time to draw for this fanfiction". They asked people for their thoughts, were not receptive to any input, and then proceeded to delete any comments mentioning the fact that the art is AI, as well as their disclaimer. Mind you, these were not hate comments but open discussions about the use of AI.

I find this deeply misleading and unfair to any potential reader. At this point, the poster is clearly trying to trick people that do not wish to engage with AI generated content into still reading the fan fiction. While I originally enjoyed the story itself, I at this point don't trust that it wasn't AI generated either, especially since the poster never responded to this distinction being made.

This is not an attempt to dogpile on that account or the story - please do not send them any hate and just ignore the story when you spot it if you do not wish to support AI "art".
