Theme: Speculative horror featuring AI as a central element of the horror.

Word Count: 7,000–11,000 words (stories outside this range will be disqualified).

Eligibility: Open to the public, 18+ only.

Prizes: Up to 5 winners receive $500 and a podcast episode reading of their story.

AI Policy: Entries must be written by humans. AI tools allowed only for light brainstorming/organization (REAL Rating ≤2). AI-generated prose is not allowed.Submitted works will be used solely for judging, production (if selected), and promotion.We do not use submissions to train machine learning models or datasets.

Content Guidelines: Stories must be suitable for public podcast broadcast and follow YouTube and podcast platform policies.

Submission Limits: One submission per person, stories must be original and unpublished.

Additional Requirement: Include a short, spoiler-free summary with your submission.

Timeline: Submissions open July 6 and close July 17 (or earlier if we hit 1,000 submissions).

Whats your thoughts on self diagnosis? I personally know someone who is autistic irl and he has a difficult time finding community with other autistic people because of the many "diagnosed by the Internet" self-identified autistic people. I don't know, there's always going to be autistic people who genuinely can't get the help they need due to not being able to get a diagnosis for one reason or another, but this whole online culture of self-dx brings a lot of problems as well, like misinfo and a lack of actual support given to people with disabilities...

I am anti self diagnosis. I think the idea of diagnosis is a medical area and should be left to professionals within a medical framework.

That said, there's nothing wrong with talking about difficulties accociated with a condition even if you don't have it. You can say "I struggle with X" and even read about say resources by autistic people on that thing/symptom without declaring you have the condition. If autism is enough of an issue for you, then you should be able to get diagnosed.

That said I am all for more resources being provided for autistics, and increased ability to get diagnosed if you think you have autism.

As an autistic I find it very annoying the amount of self ID "autistic" people who are now clogging autistic spaces, and making false representations of autism everywhere. As an autistic it makes it far harder to get taken seriously by everyone.

Squelch! Squelch is the technical shorthand for noise gating. Your antenna will constantly pick up ambient noise, which is useless and annoying to listen to all day while you wait for a call. Squelch tells the radio to mute the speakers if the overall power of the signal coming through is below a certain level. You twiddle your squelch until it just cuts out ambient noise, and when someone tries to talk to you the extra power from their signal will go above your squelch setting and it'll unmute so you can hear whoever's calling you.

how did you figure out what your authentic self was?

This will sound counter intuitive, but you need to reject identity culture. I'm not just talking about gender identity, but the emphasis we place on all identity.

"Am I punk? Am I goth? Am I cottage core? Am I a gamer? Am I a crocs person? Am I a bowl person or a plate person? Am I someone who can pull off overalls? Is xyz going to be my new thing?"

You are already yourself, the only obstacle between you and authenticity is your willingness and/or ability to be honest with yourself about what you like, what makes you feel good, and why.

The real questions to ask yourself are things like

"Am I doing this because I like it or because I was told to like it? Do I dislike this because of what it is or because of what I think of other people who like it? What are the factors and influences at play behind the decisions I make?

It's also important to understand that authenticity isn't just doing whatever we want, whenever we want, as soon as we want it.

Sometimes we do things we dislike because they're important to us and sometimes we don't do things we do like because they have consequences that go against our wishes or beliefs.

The authenticity comes from the understanding of why you're doing the things you do and being honest about them be they good or bad.
