a birthday gift for my amazing best friend, @norasmalakian!! this is based on a scene from the byler fic we're writing together of the same title, which i'm so excited about and so thankful to her for taking on this project with me!! it's been such a fun experience and i can't wait to share all our hard work with everyone happy birthday, ande!! i love you lots and hope you have a great day, you deserve nothing less! ❤️
demonizing steve for being caring, compassionate, and empathetic under the guise of “all he cares about is giving her flowers” is the dumbest shit i’ve seen in a while. god forbid a friend try to offer support for their friend who is going through a hard time. NEWSFLASH: these kinds of things are what you do for someone you care about who is experiencing hardship!
but j*n is who she should really be with, right? the guy who couldn’t even call her while they were long distance? the guy who still isn’t communicating with her even after a year and a half? the guy who is too busy projecting his relationship insecurities onto steve as opposed to talking things out with his gf. the list goes on.
steve is maintaining a respectful boundary, despite his feelings, and his first thought upon hearing what happened to nancy’s family was to go and check on her and give her support and comfort as any friend would. i don’t see how a person could be demonized for that. and anyone who sees it as steve having ulterior motives clearly doesn’t understand his character.
idk what it’ll take to make people see that j*n is not a good bf for nancy, bc if i were dating someone who couldn’t even be bothered to come and check on me while i’m dealing with my sibling being abducted and my parents barely clinging to life, i would not be dating that person anymore.
i understand having a job to do, but you can make time for loved ones.

just so everyone knows, nora's dad was voiced by an arab man (eli shankji) and she herself clearly has an olive skin tone so when you depict/draw her as white it's really not a good look lmao
Alrighty im native arab, im not from the west (im from the gulf) so im gonna throw my 2 cents here
“Malakian” doesnt sound like an arab surname, now “malak” is an arab word and it can either mean angel or ownership
An arabic last name with that word usually comes in the form of “abd al Malak”, “Al Maleek”
That doesnt mean that shes white, i 100% believe that shes not thats why i depict her with a tanner skin tone than kat and swann
Google tells me that “Malakian” is an Armenian last name so im gonna with that
I really wish she was an اختاه but i dont think she was meant to be, unless the dontnod crew come out and specify her ethnicity
thank you for your input! it's great to hear from someone who is actually arab. given that the game was made by two french canadian individuals with an unknown about of otherworldly knowledge, i personally wouldn't put a ton of faith in the selection of her surname being a strong indicator of her intended ethnicity (nor do i have a ton of faith in google as a whole tbf), but i understand your points! hcing her as armenian is a good choice!
i also agree that obviously nothing is confirmed and so i don't want to make any direct speculations about anything, but i do find it interesting that an arab man was selected to be her father's voice actor and i don't believe that wasn't on purpose in some way, shape or form. some confirmation on dontnod's side would definitely be awesome!

Nora's name is probably meant to reference Daron Malakian, guitarist of the Armenian-American metal band System of a Down. As far as I know this hasn't been confirmed anywhere, but given the game's emphasis on music it would be pretty fitting!
