Boy’s room in Alien Earth is such a fascinating mix of functions: part lab, part comms hub, part personal retreat. The production design really shows how self-contained his life is in this space.
This will be a long post with close up shots, wide shots both from the show and from set photos.
From the entrance you can see the layout:
Left: a small lab bench with synthetic parts displayed.
Center (at the far end): his communications desk.
Right: the sleeping area, bathroom corner, and a little nook for reading/recording.
Workstation close-ups:
His dual-desk setup is packed with details: monitors, comms device, lamps, stacks of notebooks, a scattering of books, and even little planet decorations. Most of the planets are glossy, glass-like spheres, but the one he actually plays with is colored like Saturn and it has a matte leather surface, giving it a completely different texture and that's the one he bounces around the show. He also seems to finish books quite quickly, because they rapidly change throughout the show.
On the other desk there are more notes, a few books (hard to make out the titles, but they might be props made for the show), and his very noticeable orange ADHD medication bottle.

Reading corner:
To the right corner, is a cozy spot with a black leather chair, a cabinet, and a small coffee table. On the floor there’s a white LEGO set mid-build; later in the series it’s finished and placed neatly on the shelves.
This is also the corner where he reads Peter Pan aloud, broadcasting his “audiobook” to the Lost Boys through a mic. A couple of other books are visible here too.
The toilet:
There’s not much to say about the toilet itself, except that the design offers almost no privacy. A glass wall separates it from the reading nook and bed, and there’s no door in front of it, just an open space.
The laboratory:
On the left side of the room is his lab bench. It’s cluttered with microscopes, containers, and various synthetic parts or experiments-in-progress. The exact purpose of the setup isn’t clear since there is a secure lab with the same setup, but it definitely adds to the sense that Boy’s space doubles as a workshop as much as a living area. My theory: when he’s working on something new, he prefers to do it alone here.
In the back left corner, behind the bench, there are two cabinets and a glass display filled with more synthetic parts, maybe his first creations?
The bed:
His bed looks surprisingly comfy, though there isn’t much else to say about it from the shots we get. What is funny, though: in episode 8 (when Hermit is locked inside with the T. Ocellus), the entire bed is just… gone. No idea when Kavalier would’ve had time to pack up his bedding in the middle of all that chaos, but it’s a small continuity detail that really stands out.
I LOVE how jealous Boy Kavalier got as soon as he realized the eye midge thing had identified Kirsh as important and Boy just HAD to get its attention and try to assert his dominance. He’s going to regret that when this is all over.
He’s SO jealous that Kirsh can engage with the aliens species without risk and so he tries to get to them through Wendy who he sees as his property and thus an extension of himself. Even in the beginning when he tries to put Kirsh in his place by claiming “assume I’m ahead of you always. Don’t you have little experiments to run?” He WANTS to understand the aliens but because the aliens are not HIS and he can’t CONTROL them, they also have to be belittled so he doesn’t feel threatened by his lack of control over the entire situation.
It’s not clear how he hired Kirsh but I don’t think Kirsh was made by Prodigy so he’s a threat as much as an employee. I also think it’s interesting that during the crash Kirsh was invested in caring for ALL the synthetics but Boy ONLY cared about Wendy and got angry when Kirsh let her run off because Kirsh could either care for the remaining Synthetics or rein in Wendy. He couldn’t do both and he chose the majority over the one synthetic who wanted to risk everything for her brother.
I’m really curious to see how this passive-aggressive battle between Kirsh and Boy will end and I’m afraid of the body count.

the base i made in case anyone wants it, theres already two other ottergender flags out there but i wanted to make my own
(this flag is specific to (north american) river otters- blue waves for rivers, browns for the otter fur, and the yellow/cream was meant to represent the moon at night but its also similar to the tan on some otter’s stomachs, and in the middle is a river otter paw print. The transparent ish stars are for nighttime as well)
