Reread Our Dreams at Dusk recently and just had to recommend it!!
A gorgeously illustrated coming of age story about a gay teenager, who after being outed, discovers a drop in centre where he meets a bunch of different lgbt people for the first time. With so many experiences explored through the brilliant collection of characters, there’s so much to learn, understand and wonder about. And for me, most importantly it showcases just how impactful it is to see those older than you be able to live and love freely, how essential it is to have a future to look forward to.
There’s something so comforting about Mc being at her absolute worst, a disgusting, monstrous, shameful beast and Caleb still loving her so gently and earnestly…
What if mc split herself when she was in the lab and created caleb? And that’s how they’re related
See that’s one way I’m thinking it’ll be, and with Mc having died and revived/reborn repeatedly, that could explain how Caleb is the “older” one. If not Mc splitting herself in half, I also thought Caleb as a sort of Dolly-the-sheep style clone made in the Lab from a bit of Mc.
Although, it is really funny to imagine current timeline CalebMc being completely unrelated yet having the most amount of incestuous guilt over their love compared to the rest of them. Like okay you have ur angst while Mr and Mrs Same Source do whatever tf they want I guess 😭

I was supposed to add different tags, one w a scenario of Caleb not being blood related but still her mahram as a milk sibling, and how that could really mess with his head 😭 since it’s sort of similar to their current relationship as adopted siblings but there’s still different nuances that would be interesting to explore…
I also thought about them being adopted siblings and Caleb not being her mahram, and if we were to explore them under the religious culture, how even as a “brother” he would have restrictions on their relationship. Particularly after puberty, it could force them apart in many ways, even down to basic physical contact. Like maybe this would have Caleb actually want to be her mahram, despite the forbidding of marriage, because he already socially/emotionally sees that as impossible, the least he could do is have some sort of closeness/openness with Mc.
There was also a third thought of Caleb being blood related to Mc but not her mahram, as in he’d be her cousin. Which still has that element of taboo, at least by most modern standards [I HOPE!!] through that blood connection with Mc, but still has the freedoms and restrictions of the second scenario ^ so it’d probably play out similarly.
Anyways, this was just something in my head a while ago and I need to make sure I don’t accidentally post drafts like that again omfg scared tf outta me LOL😭😭
