Oliver had made his way over to the King matriarchâs house after taking the trash out at his fatherâs request, knocking before inquiring where exactly Dylan was when Audrey answered the door. She showed him to the stairs up to the attic and left the two of them to it, left Oliver to venture upstairs with his curiosity and a dozen questions on the tip of his tongue.
The amount of stuff in the dusty space was fantastic; Oliver couldnât help but stare at boxes that caught his eye. âWhatâd you find?â He asks Dylan after a moment, coming over to touch her shoulder gently so not to startle her, though heâd bene less than quiet in his approach. The photograph, however, makes him blink.Â
âNo way is that who I think it is.â
It was as if Dylan had been on a quest lately, like she wanted to find out more about their pasts -- the ones their fathers had left shrouded in mystery, probably because it was painful for them. She thought she and Oliver deserved to know these parts of their histories, the parts that had shaped who they would become as young adults. She was pleased that he had come to see her -- she loved spending time with him, and she loved being able to give him these little gifts.
âYes, it is exactly who you think it is. Look at your dad, he was chunky!â She said, laughing as she pointed to the little dirty blond boy in the photo with the pot belly standing next to the thinner, smiling white-blond boy. âThis is the cutest thing Iâve ever seen. And thereâs so much more. You want to sit down and look through these with me?â
