trying to sort out my feelings on the Knights Moralis in WHA. My immediate visceral feeling is: they suck. They (especially Easthies) are lawful stupid and mindwipe first, ask questions when interrupted in their attempts to mindwipe.
But granting no quarter and not investigating are why I don't like them, and I do want to be better than that. They do have valid reason to fear unchecked magic, even if I think the systematic response to it is a very bad idea. I want to at least have some understanding and most of all a strong way to articulate why I think they are wrong.
I think their sin is in part, a lack of care. They have one tool to solve the problems they encounter and do not put the thought or the effort into how it is best applied or what other tools might serve them better, or even if the structural response to the dangers of unchecked magic is itself terribly flawed. They just return to the well of the easy solution.
"Magic can do anything as long as you do not care how it is done". Actually solving problems without making bigger ones requires care, which WHA spends a lot of time demonstrating. But even if you do care how it is done, there are solutions, you just have to work for them. Solving every problem with one brutal answer is careless.
